Three years after he was a second-round draft pick, running back Kerryon Johnson is on the way out in Detroit.

Johnson is being released, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

He's only 23 and has looked good in flashes, so why not kick the tires?

Because he wasn’t even good enough for the Lions.....

I would certainly bring him to camp to see what he could do

I agree. I remember a game against us where he couldn't be stopped. Of course, our run defense sucked back then, but I really liked how he ran. I thought he was going to be the next great back.

I would love to have him in camp. He is a strong runner. Lost count how many times last year Miami couldnt score from the 1 yard line, surely would help there. Let him compete against Malcolm Brown and Ahmed for 2nd reps.

This is disappointing. Who knows if the Dolphins would have tried to claim him as the Eagles were higher on the waiver wire.

Eagles claimed RB Kerryon Johnson off waivers from the Lions.

It’s a surprising move as Philadelphia also added receiving-back Kenny Gainwell in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. With Boston Scott, Jordan Howard and Johnson also on the roster, it’s possible Miles Sanders is merely viewed as a two-down back by the new coaching staff, with Howard coming in for goal line carries and Gainwell being dispersed on passing downs. Sanders himself should be considered a low-end RB2 until roles are defined.

He was a castaway from one of the worst teams in the league. Hard to care.
