Finally, someone put this together in stats as we like. Based on need, I'm thinking WR then DE for our first two picks in the draft. I think we should have kept Lawson, so, without him, we are weak at DE. What I desire: WR and RB with our first two picks in the first round. Even though WR is the riskiest position in the first round to draft, it is a no-brainer if it is Ja'Maar Chase or Devonte Smith.

Dolphins Wire (USA Today) wrote:
The context for these numbers is important: draft busts were determined by if a player signed a second contract with their original team and the sample size was 17 drafts from 2000 to 2016.

And, with that in mind, the results should afford the Dolphins ample warning for their plans this month if things involve a pass catcher in the 1st-round — the payoff is quite erratic.

So we are clearly going after a C 6th overall.

You can’t argue against 100%.

The NFL decision makers who make pics for the draft are elite talent evaluators.

The NFL decision makers who make pics for The draft might as well throw darts at a board with names blindfolded.

There are no guarantees in life unless you are picked in the first round of the nfl draft and play Center.

Which of these statements is closest to being true.

There are only two perfect percentages. Zero and 100%. Talk about the C position being the unsung hero’s of the league. Those dudes show up to play.

:)

So if Grier is using this data set he would lean Penei Sewell?

I am very suspicious of this data and its first-glance implications. I wish they had included the sample sizes for each position. Also, some players are not retained, not because they weren't good, but because they became too expensive to keep and/or the player wanted out of a crappy situation. Is anyone going to argue that Jarvis Landry was a bad pick by the Dolphins?

One way to incorporate this factor would be to use the draft compensation the NFL awards teams when it loses a free agent. Of course, that complicates the model, and I think that is also a relatively new rule.
