TE DUSTIN KELLER
The Dolphins signed ex-Jets TE Dustin Keller to a 1 year, $4.3 million contract. Keller was in town for a couple of days trying to get a mulityear deal, but the Dolphins would only commit one year. Part of that is due to Keller's injuries last year that only allowed him to play in 8 games. The Dolphins could have other plans in the draft, or hope that Egnew takes a huge step forward this year from being a towel boy. Signing Keller is a good signing as we've seen how good he is at stretching the seam and finding the end zone while in the red zone. To me, this is an upgrade over Anthony Fasano, but it's a "buyer beware" issue as Keller has had some injury concerns. The Dolphins may regret only signing to a 1 year contract as he may have an outstanding year this year due to making it a contract year for him, but that is good, too. My guess is that the Dolphins draft a TE early in the draft this year. WR BRANDON GIBSON
We've been hearing all week that the Dolphins wanted ex-Rams WR Brandon Gibson, and they finally agreed on a 3 year contract, but the money amount has not been released as of yet. Pro Football Focus ranked Gibson as the 39th best receiver based on production last year. He had 51 catches for 691 yards and 5 touchdowns. Against the Dolphins last year he caught 7 passes for 91 yards. I'm not sure where all this leaves WR Davone Bess, but he is in the last year of his contract. Gibson has 2 inches and 12 pounds on Bess, but aside from getting into the end zone, their stats are comparable. Neither one of them generates much yardage after the catch, but they have very dependable hands.
DOLPHINS HAVE NOT GIVEN UP ON LT JAKE LONG
Jake Long left the Rams without signing the contract they offered him today. He passed their physical, but he obviously did not get the offer that he wanted. The Rams will probably juice it up a little, but the Dolphins really want him back ... but not at what Jake Long thinks he is worth. The Dolphins have been fiddling around with contracts trying to add as little to the salary cap this year by making contracts weighier in 2014. Perhaps it is to get Jake Long on a 1 year contract ... or more. There are other teams interested in Jake Long, but he will probably find that the market is not too favorable to him since he has suffered a lot of injuries the past few years. I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to play a 1 year contract as Dustin Keller is doing in hopes of breaking the bank next year with a solid 2013. I like Jake Long and hope he comes back, but I am concerned about the injuries he seems to be getting more of each year. He plays all out and it is taking a toll on his body which is why he has been one of my favorite Dolphin players since he was drafted.
