Phinfever Draft Guru: Tony Simmons | Gabe Carimi | ROT Wisconsin Senior 6'7" 314 lbs 40 @ 5.27 | It has been proven time and time again that you can find productive running backs later in the draft, and if Mark Ingram is the pick, it would not surprise anyone as he has been mocked to Miami in most draft you see. Miami certainly has a need at running back, as Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are free agents, but the offensive line really struggled last year. Bringing in Carimi would allow Miami to slide Vernon Carey to OG, which might be best for Vernon right now. Miami real preference is to trade down and try to get back the 2nd round pick they lost in the Brandon Marshall trade. Last mock: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama | Mar 20 |
About.com: James Alder | Jake Locker | QB Washington Senior 6'2.5" 231 lbs 40 @ 4.59 | There are concerns with Locker's accuracy, and this may be a reach for the Dolphins at this point, but they apparently have little faith in Chad Henne and are still searching for a solution at the position. Running back could be a huge need as well. Last Mock: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama | Mar 12 |
Bleacher Report Chris Nelson | Ryan Mallett | QB Arkansas Junior 6'6" 253 lbs 40 @ 5.10 | The Dolphins very well might trade out of this pick, and Ryan Mallett's stock is all over the map due to questions about drug use, leadership, and character. That being said, the Dolphins need someone that can develop into an elite NFL passer, and Mallett is the best bet in this draft. | Apr 2 |
CBS Sportsline Pete Prisco | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | His 40 time wasn't great at the combine, but neither was Emmitt Smith's time. He reminds me of Smith. Last Mock: no change | Mar 2 |
CBS Sportsline Rob Rang | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are free agents, and Williams has already said he wants to move on to a contender. Ingram, the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner, would give the Dolphins a reliable lead back to build around. Last Mock: no change | Mar 28 |
CBS Sportsline Chad Reuter | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Ingram's average 40 time is not at all a reflection of his talent. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both scheduled to be free agents, and the Dolphins rely on the running game as much as any team in the league. Last Mock: no change | Mar 28 |
Consensus Draft Analysis | Ryan Williams | RB Virginia Tech Sophomore 5'10" 202 lbs 40 @ 4.45 | The Miami backfield finally showed its age in 2010 and most people expect neither of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams to be back in 2011. That leaves the Dolphins with a rather large hole at running back which I fully expect them to address in the draft by taking Ryan Williams at this point. Last Mock: no change | Mar 12 |
Draft Academy | Christian Ponder | QB Florida St Senior 6'2" 229 lbs 40 @ 4.65 | Him or Kaepernick here, I lean towards Ponder because he’s smells like a better fit for their WCO variant. The other big priority for me in the draft w/Miami is to get a RB or TE with my 3rd round pick. Last Mock: Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame | Mar 30 |
Draft Ace | Ryan Mallett | QB Arkansas Junior 6'6" 253 lbs 40 @ 5.10 | The popular pick here is Mark Ingram, and I admit he’s a very realistic possibility. However, I think the Dolphins would much prefer to end the Chad Henne era and start over with a new franchise quarterback. There are obviously some character concerns surrounding Mallett but none of the rumors have amounted to anything concrete. As a result, I believe someone will look past the concerns and fall in love with his raw talent and the Dolphins could be that team. Last Mock: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn | Mar 28 |
Draft Board Insider (Popejoy) | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Reminds me of: Ryan Torain RB Washington Redskins. Ingram is a little shorter and stockier than Torain, but both are that one cut, foot in the ground and go type of back. In terms of talent, Ingram is much more talented, but in terms of style, he's pretty close. If you got in the time machine I see a lot of Emmitt Smith in Ingram's game. Which can only be a good thing. And if you question what type of young man he is, just go back and listen to his Heisman acceptance speech from 2010. Last Mock: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama | Mar 28 |
Draft Insiders Digest | JJ Watt | DE Wisconsin Junior 6'5" 290 lbs 40 @ 4.84 | (No comment given.) | Mar 9 |
Draft Daddy | Jake Locker | QB Washington Senior 6'2.5" 231 lbs 40 @ 4.59 | Locker has tremendous talent but might need to develop a year as a backup. Last Mock: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama | Mar 29 |
Draft King | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both unrestricted free agents. And, while it's possible that the Dolphins could sign one (or both) to a new deal, the reality is that Brown averaged just 3.7 yards per carry in 2010 and Williams turns 34 in May. It may be time for fresh blood at RB in Miami. Ingram was NFL ready this time last year, fresh off a Heisman Trophy win and a BCS Championship, but NFL rules prevented him from joining the league since he was only two years removed from his high school class graduation, not the minimum three. But he's still ready, and for the Dolphins he could provide an immediate boost to the team's rushing attack. Last Mock: no change. | Apr 2 |
Draft Season (Lupagus) | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | I’m gonna follow the herd on this one. Ingram is a tough runner with good speed and also can be a threat catching the ball. He would be the perfect Dolphins back. Last Mock: no change. | Mar 7 |
Draft Season (OneBar) | Mike Pouncey | OG Florida Senior 6'5" 303 lbs 40 @ 5.27 | Might be a little bit of a reach at pick 15, but a reach worth taking. The Fins need to add a solid interior offensive lineman. Pouncey will most likely find his niche at guard in the NFL. Sure the Dolphins need to add a feature back, but we all know quality starting running backs can be found in the later rounds. Last Mock: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama | Apr 2 |
| Anthony Castonzo | LOT Boston College Senior 6'7" 311 lbs 40 @ 5.23 | No change from CMD 25: Surprised? Let me explain: some readers (and beat reporters) have suggested that it's possible that the coaching staff/front office may attempt shifting current RT Vernon Carey inside to OG. That solves the OG problem but leaves a BIG void at RT. Castonzo & Smith are the best OTs available in 2011. With few teams picking before the Dolphins looking for OT help, could Miami go this route? It's an intriguing option, especially with the knowledge that this is a solid OT class that lacks a big name (a la Jake Long in 2008). Castonzo has played RT in the past & provides insurance should anything ever happen to iron-man All-Pro Jake Long. - Joe Mays, Draft Tek Analyst Last Mock: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn | Mar 30 |
East Coast Sports | Ryan Mallett | QB Arkansas Junior 6'6" 253 lbs 40 @ 5.10 | The Dolphins are looking to trade down to acquire a second round pick, since they dealt their own pick to the Broncos for Brandon Marshall...Mallett gives the team a big arm to stretch a defense vertically, and to light a fire under Chad Henne and challenge him for the the starting QB position...Note - The rumors of Ryan Mallett falling in the draft are false and his character concerns are severely overblown... HB Ryan Williams is also on the teams radar screen, if they can acquire a second round pick. *Trade Down | Apr 2 |
ESPN Insider Todd McShay (subscriber) | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | The Dolphins need to upgrade their interior offensive line but there isn't a guard or center worth drafting this high. Pulling the trigger on a developmental project like Locker doesn't make sense here, either. Ingram had a knee injury early in 2010 but recovered nicely and got stronger as the season progressed, and he is the kind of NFL-ready back who could give Miami a huge boost in the running game, even as part of a rotation. The Dolphins could then look for a quarterback and interior offensive lineman in the next two rounds. Last Mock: no change. | Mar 16 |
ESPN Insider Mel Kiper (subscriber) | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Sticking with this angle from the first and second mocks, Miami goes with the top back on the board. It says a lot for Ingram that he really won't drop among evaluators even without a good 40 at the combine, because he was never expected to shine there. Ingram is a producer -- he has great balance, runs with great pad level, balance and leverage, and explodes from contact. Once he gets through the initial hole, he's a terror on the second level. Miami just makes sense for him. Last Mock: no change. | Mar 9 |
Fantasy Football Extreme | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Senior 6'3" 334 lbs 40 @ 5.20 | The Dolphins will be waiting for Ingram to fall, but he might not. Some have Ingram falling a lot further than this, but we believe his value will climb to at least this range come March. Some Positions Of Need: QB, RB | Apr 2 |
Fantasy Football Jumgle | Phil Taylor | DT Baylor Senior 5'10" --- lbs 40 @ --- | The Dolphins haven't had a stud NT for their 3-4 in a long time. Taylor has some off the field concerns. However, as teams assess their needs and the reality that free agency will likely not precede the draft as usual teams have a to reach a little more than usual to address needs via the draft. Taylor has the strength and size, but more important the agility to play the NT in the Dolphins 3-4. With RB being a need they can address later on I think they will pass on Ingram to pick up the only impact 3-4 NT in the draft. | Apr 2 |
FanHouse | Blaine Gabbart | QB Missouri Junior 6'5" 235 lbs 40 @ 4.75 | The Dolphins haven't taken a quarterback in the first round since Dan Marino. And they also haven't had a good answer at quarterback since Marino. Gabbert changes one streak; his size and ability give him a good shot at changing the other. | Jan 6 |
FF Toolbox: De Lima | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Yeah, yeah. People are tired of seeing Ingram get picked here but no team has a bigger need at RB than Miami. Ingram may have had a down 2010 season, but he leads this year's running back class. Miami is letting both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams to test free agency. Ingram would then be the majority ball-carrier in a split with Lex Hilliard. Last Mock: no change. | Mar 29 |
FF Toolbox: Dimon | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Ingram did not really tear it up at the combine, but he has always been on Miami's radar. A mid first-round pick would not be too much of a reach considering it fits a big need. Last Mock: no change. | Mar 21 |
FF Toolbox: Standig | Mike Pouncey | OG Florida Senior 6'4" 310 lbs 40 @ 5.25 | Mark Ingram is under consideration depending on the plan for Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, agreed? Fine, maybe Chad Henne isn't the answer for the Dolphins under center, but taking a passer no longer looks like an option here anyway. So let's go with a front-side protector in Pouncey, who gets a draft status bounce based on Maurkice's rookie success. Last Mock: no change. | Mar 23 |
FF Toolbox: Warner | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | The Ronnie and Ricky show has likely played its last games in South Beach as both are free agents. The 2009 Heisman award winner might be undersized, but he plays much bigger than his 5'9 frame. This could be seen as a reach but Ingram's elite skills as a receiver and pass blocker could have him flying up draft boards by draft day. | Mar 4 |
FF Toolbox: Weiser | Ryan Mallet | QB Arkansas Senior 6'5" 235 lbs 40 @ 5.10 | Miami wants a quarterback, but with Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert off the board, there may not be one worth taking. The Dolphins do not have a second round pick either, so this is where they would have to make their move. Barring a reach or a trade to acquire a young signal caller, Miami should find a running back. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are gone and Mark Ingram is easily the best running back on the board and could be a big time workhorse for the Dolphins right away. | Mar 28 |
FinNation (Fin Forum) | Mike Pouncey | OG Florida Senior 6'4" 310 lbs 40 @ 5.25 | (Trade Down w/Green Bay). Pouncey became my trade-down preference when the Dolphins re-signed Richie Incognito. Although Incognito isn’t a slam-dunk replacement, he definitely shifts the need from C to OG. Mike moved to Center last year when twin brother Maurkice left for the draft, but he’s a better fit at LG. He’ll form a great tandem with Jake Long for the next 7-10 years. | Mar 28 |
Football Fan Spot | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | If you take a look at Ingram’s 40, you don’t get what the big deal is. He ran unofficially in the late 4.5s and officially in the early 4.6s (you decide which to trust, I side with unofficial). However, he had the fastest 10 yard split of any running back, which shows his explosion through the hole. He also dominated the drills. Oh, and a won The Heisman in 2009, so there's that. Ingram is a jack of all trades at running back who can be a 3 down back from week 1 because he can pass catch and pass block. Both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are free agents this offseason and neither of them were even that effective last year as the Dolphins averaged a mere 3.7 YPC on the ground. | Mar 27 |
Football's Future | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | This may make the most sense of any pick in the first round. The Phins offense is built around the running game, and they have two free agent backs on the wrong side of 30. Without being able to address the position in free agency before the draft, adding a young workhorse is the way to go. | Mar 22 |
| Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Any doubts about Ingram’s junior season were erased with an unbelievable performance in the Capital One Bowl. Often compared to Emmitt Smith for his running style, Ingram is an every-down back and the Dolphins will always be a run-first team. Both Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown are free agents-to-be, and the Dolphins offense was a weekly horror show this past season. Ingram’s the top back in this draft and arguably the only running back worthy of a first-round pick in this year’s crop. He had a solid showing in Indy. | Mar 3 |

KFFL | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown both UFAs; Ingram can take pressure off QB situation. Last Mock: no change. | Apr 1 |
Miami Herald: Garbarini | Cam Newton | QB Auburn Junior 6'5" 248 lbs 40 @ 4.59 | Every prognosticator on the planet seems to have Alabama running back Mark Ingram as the Dolphins' preferred pick, and the 2009 Heisman recipient makes sense to a team eyeing an upgrade at that spot. But if Newton's still on the board, look for Miami to snatch him up. Owner Stephen Ross desperately wants a marquee attraction to energize the fan base, and Chad Henne may not be the long-term answer at quarterback. | Apr 1 |
National Football Post | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Ingram has been tabbed to the Dolphins ever since he declared. He ran better at his pro day, possesses NFL-caliber talent and is an instant impact runner in my view. Last Mock: no change | Mar 16 |
New York Post: NFL Blitz | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | (No comment given.) | Apr 1 |
NBC Sports Evan Silva | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | The 2009 Heisman winner's junior-year numbers were down after a left knee scope, but Ingram stayed highly effective with a 5.54 YPC average and career-best 13.43 yards per catch. A tackle-breaking punisher, Ingram is versed in blitz pickup after playing on pass downs in Crimson Tide OC Jim McElwain's pro-style scheme. The Fins' top two rushers are declining free agents, and Ingram fits GM Jeff Ireland's desire for a back who "pass protects and creates yards on his own." | Feb 5 |
NFL.COM Pat Kirwan | Prince Amukamara | CB Nebraska Senior 6'00" 206 lbs 40 @ 4.43 | This is the first mock draft in which I did not put running back Mark Ingram in this spot. Amukamara had yet to fall this far, but his draft grade dictates taking him here. If Amukamara slips, it will be interesting to see how far Ingram could fall. Last Mock: Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama | Mar 27 |
NFL Draft 101 | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Round 1 - RB Mark Ingram Alabama Ronnie Brown's free agency and Ricky Williams age have created a big hole at running back for a Dolphins. Ingram is a big powerful back with excellent vision whom the Dolphins can build their ball control, ground attack and take pressure off whomever the quarterback is. It is amazing how many mocks have Ingram pegged to the Dolphins as the 15th overall pick. Quarterback is an alternative direction but turning over the offense to a rookie would not be easy decision for a coaching staff on the hot seat. Round 2 - (traded to Denver) Round 3 - OT Orlando Franklin, Miami Round 4 - C Kristofer O'Dowd, USC | Mar 29 |
NFL Draft Blitz | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | This pick is the most common in all mocks. I have said that before and have nothing else interesting to say about this pick. I am sure that Dolphins fans would prefer a Quarterback, though. | Mar 25 |
NFL Draft Countdown | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | It looks as though there is a very good chance that neither Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams will be back next season. If that’s the case then running back will immediately jump to the top of the Dolphins list of offseason priorities and Alabama’s Mark Ingram, who is the clear-cut top running back in this draft, could be the solution. Ingram, whose father actually played for the Dolphins for a couple of years, doesn’t necessarily posses any standout physical tools but he’s a natural runner with good vision, instincts and excellent feet who bears an uncanny resemblance to Emmitt Smith. Even though Ingram isn’t the type of elite prospect Adrian Peterson was coming out, the Heisman Trophy winner has what it takes to be workhorse runner in the NFL. Miami doesn’t have any faith in quarterback Chad Henne so they would probably love to get a crack at Auburn’s Cam Newton, who would be their quarterback of the future as well as the ultimate "Wildcat" weapon they had hoped Pat White would become. However, barring a trade they won’t get a shot at Newton but could consider Washington’s Jake Locker. Keep an eye on Florida OG / C Mike Pouncey as well | Mar 21 |
NFL Draft Dog | Jake Locker | QB Washington Senior 6'2.5" 231 lbs 40 @ 4.59 | Would have been a top 5 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Locker is a big kid (6' 3" 226 lbs) with a strong arm and 4.59 speed. Locker threw the ball well at the NFL Scouting Combine and was just as fast as QB Cam Newton. He needs work reading defenses, but athletic ablility like he has can't be taught. | Mar 29 |
| Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | The time has come for the Dolphins to change their identity at the Running Back position. Ronnie Brown has had his moments, but never provided the consistent threat that the Fins needed. Ricky Williams is on his way out as well. Mark Ingram is the best runner available and fills the need for a fresh face and legs. This may be one of the most dead set logical picks of the draft if Ingram is available. Last Mock: no change. | Mar 18 |
900 Football Links | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | There is a reason why a large number of mock drafts have Ingram going to Miami here. They desperately need a running back. And unless they trade down they have no second round pick. While a good running back could be available in round three, it's too big of a risk to take. So if Miami trades down and gets a second round pick in return, they go off of Ingram. If not, Ingram should clearly be their guy. Last Mock: no change. | Mar 18 |
| Mike Pouncey | OG Florida Senior 6'4" 310 lbs 40 @ 5.25 | I think Miami will do everything in their power to move out of this pick, but if they are forced to pick I think Pouncey is the best option at this point. It’s being rumored that incognito will not be back and Pouncey could step in day one alongside Long and boost the offensive line. Many have Ingram here and I could see that, but I am not a fan of drafting a RB in round one, they are too easy to find in later rounds. | Feb 26 |
| Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both free agents, and Fins G.M. Jeff Ireland is intent on finding a running back “that’s productive, can pass protect, and creates yards on his own.” Ingram meets each criterion. | Feb 16 |
| Jake Locker | QB Washington Senior 6'2.5" 231 lbs 40 @ 4.59 | Locker did little to prove himself as a franchise quarterback as a senior, and did not grade out as a first-round pick, not showing the consistency, accuracy or decision making desired. There's an outside chance that Locker could be available in the second round, but the Dolphins traded away their second-round pick in the Brandon Marshall deal, and if they want to address their most glaring need, they could be forced to reach. It's more likely they will seek to deal down, acquire the additional second-round pick they are missing, and land their quarterback of the future at the end of the first round. Last Mock: Ryan Mallet, QB, Arkansas | Mar 25 |
| Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Team Needs: RB, QB, OL, S, DL Key 2011 Free Agents: RB Ronnie Brown, RB Ricky Williams, OG Richie Incognito Alternative: C/G Mike Pouncey, QB Cam Newton, QB Jake Locker, RB Mikel LeShoure NOTE: Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both Free Agents so the Dolphins need a RB that can carry the the load like Mark Ingram or Mikel LeShoure. Last Mock: no change. | Mar 7 |

| Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Matt Infante explains: In a perfect world, the Dolphins will be able to move down from the 15th overall pick and reacquire a second-round pick. Unfortunately, this mock draft prohibits trades, leaving me with a difficult decision. The Dolphins are clearly in the market for a quarterback. But none of the quarterbacks available really present good value at the 15th pick. The team has a need along the interior offensive line as well, but unless the guard or center is an absolute can't-miss stud, 15 is far too early to address that need. And there is not a speed receiver with a mid-first round grade. That means the Dolphins have no choice in this situation but to select the draft's top running back, Mark Ingram. With Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams and Patrick Cobbs all unrestricted free agents, the Dolphins have a glaring hole at the running back position. While I'm not a fan of drafting first-round running backs, this is really the only logical pick if the Dolphins are forced to select at 15. He's the top talent remaining on the board who also happens to fill a huge need. Dan Kadar reacts: The 2011 NFL Draft looks like it will heavily skew toward the offense for the Dolphins. While the idea is out there that running backs shouldn't be drafted early, this is a good spot for Ingram. Even if the Dolphins bring back any of their unrestricted free agent running backs, they're all up there in age. | Apr 2 |
Sports Fantasy Guide | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Ronnie Brown is injury prone and slowing down, Ricky Williams is towards the end of his career. Adding a RB like Mark Ingram would be a huge addition to the Miami offense. Ingram is a small, stout running back who has been compared to legendary Dallas Cowboy RB Emmitt Smith. | Apr 1 |
Sports Illustrated Don Banks | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | It may be easy to find quality running backs these days, but it's not easy to find a Mark Ingram waiting in rounds two through seven. I asked one personnel man this week what he thought of the former Heisman winner, and he put it succinctly: "I think he's a beast. He's good.'' Plenty of mockers aren't keeping the Dolphins and Ingram together at No. 15. But I am. It's a marriage that should happen. Last Mock: no change. | Mar 30 |

| Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | I’ve fought the Mark Ingram selection for long enough, pointing out that every mock draft which has the Miami Dolphins selecting the Alabama tailback in the first-round was lazy. But the truth is….that pick fits like a glove. That’s what I learned after spending three days trying to make this selection for The NFL Network’s On The Beat Mock. The Dolphins would like to trade down to pick up a second-round pick, but if they can’t find a partner General Manager Jeff Ireland and coach Tony Sparano will stick with their select the best player approach. Ingram is the top rated tailbacks in a deep class, and he clearly fits a team need because both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are free agents. It came down to Ingram or Florida center/guard Mike Pouncey, and I went with Ingram because I don’t view Pouncey as an elite draft prospect. He’s good, but he’s not his brother, Maurkice Pouncey, who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie with the Steelers. | Mar 29 |
| Ryan Mallet | QB Arkansas Senior 6'5" 235 lbs 40 @ 5.10 | A lot of people are down on Ryan Mallet due too character concerns and concerns that he may not be smart enough to succeed in the NFL. Someone will fall in love with his size and amazing arm and take him in the first round. The Dolphins need to make a change at QB as Chad Henne just doesn't have it and Tyler Thigpen played awful when given the chance last year. | Feb 18 |
| Tyron Smith | OT USC Senior 6'5" 307 lbs 40 @ 5.10 | What a disappointing season for the Dolphins. Henne was expected to be the future QB for Miami, but he looked terrible this year. He is wildly inconsistent. He would look great on one drive then go out there again and throw an ugly INT. Even with Brandon Marshall on that offense, they struggled. They need a new QB. Sparano is going to stick around though, so they probably will give Henne another year. With that being said Richie Incognito will be a free agent and if they don't resign him they will need a replacement. Pouncey is going to be an option here, but Miami could opt to go for a young OT and move Vernon Carey to guard. Carimi excels at run blocking and could step in and play RT for Miami's offensive line. | Mar 22 |
| Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | Should teams wait until the later rounds to take a running back? It seems like an idea with, pardon the pun, legs after this season. This year 17 players had at least 1,000 yards rushing. The bookends of that list were the NFL leader (Foster) and a rookie (Blount). Three others were taken in the seventh round or not at all, and Turner was taken in the fifth round. On the other side of that coin 6 of the top rushers went in the first round and 5 more were second rounders which represents 65% of the list. I don't think teams are ready to give up taking them early just yet. Brown and Williams combined for a disappointing 1,407 yards on 359 carries. Their inability to run the ball put too much pressure on Henne passing it and he committed 21 turnovers. Now that I've brought that up, if they like a replacement for him here that is the call | Jan 25 |
The Miami Dolphins Spotlight: Chris Nelson | Ryan Mallet | QB Arkansas Senior 6'5" 235 lbs 40 @ 5.10 | The Dolphins very well might trade out of this pick, and Ryan Mallett's stock is all over the map due to questions about drug use, leadership, and character. That being said, the Dolphins need someone that can develop into an elite NFL passer, and Mallett is the best bet in this draft. | Apr 2 |
The New NFL Draft | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | I have previously had the Dolphins taking a QB with this pick in the 2011 NFL Mock Draft. However, I am not sure they are ready to give up on Chad Henne yet so soon into his career. I previously had them taking Ingram in the 2011 NFL Mock Draft and then I got away from him because thought this may be to high for him. I think that he is worth a top 15 pick again and I think that he will go to the Dolphins with this 2011 NFL Draft pick. | Mar 31 |
The Phinsider | Robert Quinn | DE/OLB UNC Senior 6'4" 265 lbs 40 @ 4.70 | A defensive player? Am I nuts? Maybe a little. But in this particular situation, assuming the Dolphins cannot trade out of the pick, Quinn is the guy this regime is most likely to draft. Jeff Ireland said the team will not ignore the defensive side of the ball despite their improved performance in 2010. The offense has a ton of holes - I get that. But Quinn is too good of a talent to pass up here. A pass-rushing duo of Cameron Wake and Robert Quinn could potentially be epic. | Mar 24 |
The Sporting News Warroom | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | (No comment given.) | Mar 22 |
The Trojan Empire | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | The Miami offense consisted of the two-headed monster of Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, without offering much of anything else. The contracts of both players must now be addressed, and it’s doubtful that both will return. The Dolphins can plug in the forgotten Heisman Trophy winner in this draft, selecting Mark Ingram with the 15th overall pick, which would secure a capable replacement for outgoing rushers. Last Mock: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn | Mar 23 |

Walters Footbal Matt McGuire | Mark Ingram | RB Alabama Junior 5'10" 215 lbs 40 @ 4.50 | The Dolphins would love to take a quarterback, but both Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton are off the board in this version of my 2011 NFL Mock Draft. Would they be crazy enough to spend this pick on Jake Locker or Ryan Mallett? Maybe, but for the sake of Dolphin fans, I hope not. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both free agents, so running back is a big need. Mark Ingram, one of the top players available, would be an enormous upgrade in Miami's backfield. Other 2011 NFL Draft Possibilities: 1. Mike Pouncey, G - The Dolphins' prime needs don't really match many of the top players available, so this would be a pretty big reach. They could trade down several spots and select Mike Pouncey. 2. Aldon Smith, DE/OLB - Word is that Miami wants to upgrade its pass rush. The Dolphins could make a surprise choice and draft Aldon Smith, and then move Koa Misi inside next to Karlos Dansby. | Mar 29 |
