The hits have starting coming early this season for the Dolphins as rookie starting Guard Donald Thomas was lost for the season. The Dolphins raved about Thomas during camp as he stepped in, stepped up, and took the open spot at Right Guard. The Phins have signed former Panther Evan Mathis, who played for Offensive Coordinator Dan Henning, to fill in.
So the Dolphins come out and lose a close one in the opener. When does the losing stop this time? After last season I can’t help but to ask myself that question. After all the Dolphins did lose a close one to the Redskins in the opener last season. Trent Green however did not throw over 40 passes, his arm probably would have fallen off, and the Dolphins did not have a young work in progress line. So that’s a good sign that Penny can in fact do that if needed to, and it’s a good feeling to know there is young talent in the trenches, but until that first win comes I feel like a Dolfan with a monkey on my back. The Jets in all fairness, do have a very stiff front seven, so I can understand why the Dolphins had trouble running, however, both Ricky and Ronnie looked good, the Dolphins NEED to be able to run the ball. Some good news is that last week the Niners were successful running against the Cards, Frank Gore averaged 6.9 YPC and scored a TD. I would Expect both Ricky and Ronnie to have big days as well as Fasano. Hopefully the Dolphins can get their ground game going and a receiver will step up, perhaps Bess. It would be nice to see Warner on his back the whole game, and it’s a definite possibility with those young studs the Phins have in the trenches. Its week three of the College Football Season, and I will have week 3 of “Potential Dolphins in Action” tomorrow in the NFL Draft and College Football forum. If you want some idea of who to watch this week so you will be ready for “Draft Season” then check it out.
