Tonight at 8PM EST the main event of the off-season kicks off, yes…it is the NFL Draft. I’ve been around the tube for the better part of the last 20 years watching one draft after another, but this year’s seems to have everyone on edge. As I look back on some of those years I remember the feelings after the first pick being mostly positive.

Oddly enough I remember the Jake Long pick deflating a lot of people. Years ago, John Avery owned that distinction…mainly because Miami traded down out of a spot they could’ve drafted Randy Moss. This year’s draft has that same potential for disappointment of the masses. I think everyone has offered up their version of a mock, however, that’s not me.

You can study every player, every position until your eyes cross….but there is a Ryan Leaf in those first 10 picks and there is a Zach Thomas somewhere between rounds 3-5. I guess, just like Jake Long, we really won’t know if the pick is going to be a successful one until they strap on pads with the big boys. So no matter who the pick, it is just a pick.

One thing is for sure, the draft offers us fans a chance to sit, anticipate and enjoy the drama all while becoming couch potatoes once again. BTW, if you're keeping score...all 8 of the NFL analysts on NFL.com have Miami picking Tannehill. The ball is tee'd up.....

 Ryan Tannehill
