Coach Philbin came out with a request for patience the other day. I think he’s aware of the hyper-sensitivity right now surrounding the QB situation in Miami. It seems the fan base is growing ever impatient with the lack of an apparent franchise QB. The problem with this is most fans are ready to jump off the edge if Miami doesn’t select Tannehill, if available, with their first pick. The question is should Miami pull the trigger on a QB who is by most experts opinions a project that will have little to no impact this year. My feeling is that Philbin and company are not going to pull the trigger on Tannehill just to satisfy the masses. That is a good thing. Miami has plenty of other holes where a better player could be taken. Tannehill in my opinion represents the best of tier 3 QBs in the draft but he’s not worth the 8th overall pick.
Personally, I’d like to see Miami grab one of the talented DE’s at 8 and then grab a QB in round 2. I’m going to give Philbin and Sherman an out on Tannehill. If they decide he’s worth the 8th pick, then I hope its for the reason that Sherman believes in him as Miami’s Heir Apparent and not just to show the world they weren’t asleep on the QB issue.
My pick would be Courtney Upshaw from Alabama. He showed up at the combine beefed up to 280 and I have to think he ran the drills without his shirt on to show the world that it wasn’t McDonald’s fat. He looked fit and agile at 280 and ran a 4.7 forty yard dash. He’d be a perfect bookend to Cameron Wake for years to come. Finally, the Marlins are going to get a new stadium. I, personally, won’t miss the infield during September games. Go Phins!
