It has been proven time and time again that you can find productive running backs later in the draft, and if Mark Ingram is the pick, it would not surprise anyone as he has been mocked to Miami in most draft you see. Miami certainly has a need at running back, as Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are free agents, but the offensive line really struggled last year. Bringing in Carimi would allow Miami to slide Vernon Carey to OG, which might be best for Vernon right now. Miami real preference is to trade down and try to get back the 2nd round pick they lost in the Brandon Marshall trade.

However, I think the Dolphins would much prefer to end the Chad Henne era and start over with a new franchise quarterback. There are obviously some character concerns surrounding Mallett but none of the rumors have amounted to anything concrete. As a result, I believe someone will look past the concerns and fall in love with his raw talent and the Dolphins could be that team.

Reminds me of: Ryan Torain RB Washington Redskins. Ingram is a little shorter and stockier than Torain, but both are that one cut, foot in the ground and go type of back. In terms of talent, Ingram is much more talented, but in terms of style, he's pretty close. If you got in the time machine I see a lot of Emmitt Smith in Ingram's game. Which can only be a good thing. And if you question what type of young man he is, just go back and listen to his Heisman acceptance speech from 2010.

Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both unrestricted free agents. And, while it's possible that the Dolphins could sign one (or both) to a new deal, the reality is that Brown averaged just 3.7 yards per carry in 2010 and Williams turns 34 in May. It may be time for fresh blood at RB in Miami.

Ingram was NFL ready this time last year, fresh off a Heisman Trophy win and a BCS Championship, but NFL rules prevented him from joining the league since he was only two years removed from his high school class graduation, not the minimum three. But he's still ready, and for the Dolphins he could provide an immediate boost to the team's rushing attack.

The Dolphins need to upgrade their interior offensive line but there isn't a guard or center worth drafting this high. Pulling the trigger on a developmental project like Locker doesn't make sense here, either. Ingram had a knee injury early in 2010 but recovered nicely and got stronger as the season progressed, and he is the kind of NFL-ready back who could give Miami a huge boost in the running game, even as part of a rotation. The Dolphins could then look for a quarterback and interior offensive lineman in the next two rounds.

Sticking with this angle from the first and second mocks, Miami goes with the top back on the board. It says a lot for Ingram that he really won't drop among evaluators even without a good 40 at the combine, because he was never expected to shine there. Ingram is a producer -- he has great balance, runs with great pad level, balance and leverage, and explodes from contact. Once he gets through the initial hole, he's a terror on the second level. Miami just makes sense for him.

The Dolphins haven't had a stud NT for their 3-4 in a long time. Taylor has some off the field concerns. However, as teams assess their needs and the reality that free agency will likely not precede the draft as usual teams have a to reach a little more than usual to address needs via the draft. If you take a look at Ingram’s 40, you don’t get what the big deal is. He ran unofficially in the late 4.5s and officially in the early 4.6s (you decide which to trust, I side with unofficial). However, he had the fastest 10 yard split of any running back, which shows his explosion through the hole. He also dominated the drills. Oh, and a won The Heisman in 2009, so there's that.

Ingram is a jack of all trades at running back who can be a 3 down back from week 1 because he can pass catch and pass block. Both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are free agents this offseason and neither of them were even that effective last year as the Dolphins averaged a mere 3.7 YPC on the ground.

Quarterback is an alternative direction but turning over the offense to a rookie would not be easy decision for a coaching staff on the hot seat.

It looks as though there is a very good chance that neither Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams will be back next season. If that’s the case then running back will immediately jump to the top of the Dolphins list of offseason priorities and Alabama’s Mark Ingram, who is the clear-cut top running back in this draft, could be the solution. Ingram, whose father actually played for the Dolphins for a couple of years, doesn’t necessarily posses any standout physical tools but he’s a natural runner with good vision, instincts and excellent feet who bears an uncanny resemblance to Emmitt Smith. Even though Ingram isn’t the type of elite prospect Adrian Peterson was coming out, the Heisman Trophy winner has what it takes to be workhorse runner in the NFL. Miami doesn’t have any faith in quarterback Chad Henne so they would probably love to get a crack at Auburn’s Cam Newton, who would be their quarterback of the future as well as the ultimate "Wildcat" weapon they had hoped Pat White would become. However, barring a trade they won’t get a shot at Newton but could consider Washington’s Jake Locker. Keep an eye on Florida OG / C Mike Pouncey as well

Matt Infante explains: In a perfect world, the Dolphins will be able to move down from the 15th overall pick and reacquire a second-round pick. Unfortunately, this mock draft prohibits trades, leaving me with a difficult decision.

The Dolphins are clearly in the market for a quarterback. But none of the quarterbacks available really present good value at the 15th pick. The team has a need along the interior offensive line as well, but unless the guard or center is an absolute can't-miss stud, 15 is far too early to address that need. And there is not a speed receiver with a mid-first round grade.

That means the Dolphins have no choice in this situation but to select the draft's top running back, Mark Ingram. With Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams and Patrick Cobbs all unrestricted free agents, the Dolphins have a glaring hole at the running back position. While I'm not a fan of drafting first-round running backs, this is really the only logical pick if the Dolphins are forced to select at 15. He's the top talent remaining on the board who also happens to fill a huge need.

Dan Kadar reacts: The 2011 NFL Draft looks like it will heavily skew toward the offense for the Dolphins. While the idea is out there that running backs shouldn't be drafted early, this is a good spot for Ingram. Even if the Dolphins bring back any of their unrestricted free agent running backs, they're all up there in age.

I’ve fought the Mark Ingram selection for long enough, pointing out that every mock draft which has the Miami Dolphins selecting the Alabama tailback in the first-round was lazy. But the truth is….that pick fits like a glove. That’s what I learned after spending three days trying to make this selection for The NFL Network’s On The Beat Mock.

The Dolphins would like to trade down to pick up a second-round pick, but if they can’t find a partner General Manager Jeff Ireland and coach Tony Sparano will stick with their select the best player approach. Ingram is the top rated tailbacks in a deep class, and he clearly fits a team need because both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are free agents. It came down to Ingram or Florida center/guard Mike Pouncey, and I went with Ingram because I don’t view Pouncey as an elite draft prospect. He’s good, but he’s not his brother, Maurkice Pouncey, who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie with the Steelers.

A lot of people are down on Ryan Mallet due too character concerns and concerns that he may not be smart enough to succeed in the NFL. Someone will fall in love with his size and amazing arm and take him in the first round. The Dolphins need to make a change at QB as Chad Henne just doesn't have it and Tyler Thigpen played awful when given the chance last year.

What a disappointing season for the Dolphins. Henne was expected to be the future QB for Miami, but he looked terrible this year. He is wildly inconsistent. He would look great on one drive then go out there again and throw an ugly INT. Even with Brandon Marshall on that offense, they struggled. They need a new QB. Sparano is going to stick around though, so they probably will give Henne another year. With that being said Richie Incognito will be a free agent and if they don't resign him they will need a replacement. Pouncey is going to be an option here, but Miami could opt to go for a young OT and move Vernon Carey to guard. Carimi excels at run blocking and could step in and play RT for Miami's offensive line.

Should teams wait until the later rounds to take a running back? It seems like an idea with, pardon the pun, legs after this season. This year 17 players had at least 1,000 yards rushing. The bookends of that list were the NFL leader (Foster) and a rookie (Blount). Three others were taken in the seventh round or not at all, and Turner was taken in the fifth round. On the other side of that coin 6 of the top rushers went in the first round and 5 more were second rounders which represents 65% of the list. I don't think teams are ready to give up taking them early just yet. Brown and Williams combined for a disappointing 1,407 yards on 359 carries. Their inability to run the ball put too much pressure on Henne passing it and he committed 21 turnovers. Now that I've brought that up, if they like a replacement for him here that is the call

The Dolphins very well might trade out of this pick, and Ryan Mallett's stock is all over the map due to questions about drug use, leadership, and character. That being said, the Dolphins need someone that can develop into an elite NFL passer, and Mallett is the best bet in this draft.

I have previously had the Dolphins taking a QB with this pick in the 2011 NFL Mock Draft. However, I am not sure they are ready to give up on Chad Henne yet so soon into his career. I previously had them taking Ingram in the 2011 NFL Mock Draft and then I got away from him because thought this may be to high for him. I think that he is worth a top 15 pick again and I think that he will go to the Dolphins with this 2011 NFL Draft pick.

A defensive player? Am I nuts? Maybe a little. But in this particular situation, assuming the Dolphins cannot trade out of the pick, Quinn is the guy this regime is most likely to draft. Jeff Ireland said the team will not ignore the defensive side of the ball despite their improved performance in 2010. The offense has a ton of holes - I get that. But Quinn is too good of a talent to pass up here. A pass-rushing duo of Cameron Wake and Robert Quinn could potentially be epic.

The Miami offense consisted of the two-headed monster of Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, without offering much of anything else. The contracts of both players must now be addressed, and it’s doubtful that both will return. The Dolphins can plug in the forgotten Heisman Trophy winner in this draft, selecting Mark Ingram with the 15th overall pick, which would secure a capable replacement for outgoing rushers.

The Dolphins would love to take a quarterback, but both Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton are off the board in this version of my 2011 NFL Mock Draft. Would they be crazy enough to spend this pick on Jake Locker or Ryan Mallett? Maybe, but for the sake of Dolphin fans, I hope not.

Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both free agents, so running back is a big need. Mark Ingram, one of the top players available, would be an enormous upgrade in Miami's backfield.

Other 2011 NFL Draft Possibilities:

1. Mike Pouncey, G - The Dolphins' prime needs don't really match many of the top players available, so this would be a pretty big reach. They could trade down several spots and select Mike Pouncey.

2. Aldon Smith, DE/OLB - Word is that Miami wants to upgrade its pass rush. The Dolphins could make a surprise choice and draft Aldon Smith, and then move Koa Misi inside next to Karlos Dansby.
