1 Detroit (The Hen)- QB Matthew Stafford, Georgia I was going to shake things right off the bat. I think the Lions will be looking between him and OT. I was going to go with OT Monroe or Smith as the Lions have Culpepper, Stanton and Henson on the roster. 2 St. Louis (Phins Rock) - Jason Smith, OT, Baylor While I don't consider Smith to be the best overall tackle in this year's draft, he is the best pass blocker which is what St. Louis is mainly looking for in an OT. He will anchor that O-line for year's to come, and they should not lose a beat after losing Pace. 3 Kansas City (PZ5413) - Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia Some have Crabtree or Curry going here, but the Chiefs need to build from the inside out, and it all starts with the offensive line. Monroe will help to anchor this line for years to come. 4 Seattle - (Phinsfansc) - Mark Sanchez, QB, Southern Cal While drafting an OL is a consideration here along with possibly a WR, Matt Hassleback is coming off an injury riddled season and will be 34 years old in September. There is a lot of buzz about Sanchez here, so I will place him with the Seahawks as he will be groomed to be there QB of the future. 5 Cleveland - (Big Dave) - Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest The Browns have a lot of needs and could go OT, WR, or OLB at the #5 spot in the draft right here. If the draft goes the way the phinfever staff is saying it will go, the Browns will grab the best player in the draft in OLB Aaron Curry. Coach Mangini's first priority, as with every 3-4 Coach, is to get his linebackers set. With free agent signings Barton and Bowens being over the 30 year old mark, this will be a move in the right directions for the Browns. They will be draft to sign WR Michael Crabtree right here whom some consider to be the next Larry Fitzgerald, but Mangini will make the decision to go with his linebacker if he is still on the board. 6 Cincinnati - (Phins Rock) - Andre Smith, OT, Alabama Easy pick here. Cincinnati is going to go OT here, and Andre Smith is by far the best one available. Some consider him the best OT to ever come out...that is had it not been for the fiasco that happened over the combine weekend, and everything following that. The Bengals really need to solidify the Offensive line as they lost one OT to FA, and Levi Jones is very undependable. Carson Palmer is going to die under center if he does not have any protection. Some other options here are obviously BJ Raji and also a pass rusher in Brian Orakpo. Smith should be the pick here though. I'd go as far as to say I'd be shocked if they didn't go Smith. 7 Oakland - (Big Dave) - Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech Al Davis loves the vertical game and he will love Michael Crabtree. Oakland has been a haven for players with character issues, so, Crabtree fits the bill here with his cockiness. Crabtree is a tough, physical receiver who can gain separation. He has good concentration to make the difficult catches and is a great leaper. 8 Jacksonville - (PZ5413) Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri Although the Jags just signed Torry Holt, they'll still need a lot of help at WR and what better than a bright young star to learn under Mr. Holt? Maclin plays a lot like Holt too, which will make it even easier to teach him the ins and outs of playing WR at the NFL level. 9 Green Bay - (Phinsfansc) - Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU There is talk that BJ Ragi will be the pick and he is very much in play here. That being said, they have Johnny Jolly and he is being mentioned as the NT for the team and he does have the build at 6'3, 320 lbs, but the concern there is he is a FA after the 2009 season. If they believe he is there NT, then Tyson Jackson will be the pick and he has the perfect size to be a 5 technique in a 3-4 scheme for a DE. 10 San Francisco (Phins Rock) - Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas With Jackson off the board here, San Fran takes a pass rusher in Orakpo. Orakpo should be a force on the outside for a long time. You know that Singletary is going defense here with this pick. 11 Buffalo - (Big Dave) - Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn St Buffalo needs a pass rusher and Maybin is an excellent athlete with a quick first step. He has very long arms and is built to add more bulk. He could be the terror off the edge that they've missed since Bruce Smith. 12 Denver - (PZ5413) - BJ Raji, DT, BC One of the most common picks amongst mock drafts this year has been BJ Raji to the Broncos at #12... it doesn't change here. They need someone to play DT, and Raji is pure beast. 13 Washington - (The Hen) -Clay Matthews, OLB, USC The Skins have made some moves and let guys go. This pick will fill a need on the outside.... 14 New Orleans - (Phinsfansc) - Malcolm Jenkins, CB/S, Ohio State New Orleans may be tempted to take Beanie Wells, but they desperately need to upgrade there secondary. Jenkins will be the pick. 15 Houston (Phins Rock) - Darius Butler, CB, UConn Maybe a surprise pick here to some, but it's clear to me that Houston is looking CB in the first round here. They acquired veterans along the front 7, and have plenty of offense. CB is really the only glaring weakness on this team, and on turf thus a fast surface, and with their big time corner in a potential hold out situation, the Texans pick Butler. Butler will excel in Houston. The other option here is Vontae Davis. 16 San Diego - (The Hen) - Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia San Diego goes after a RB....Tough pick here, as the Chargers could go Defense. 17 New York Jets - (PZ5413) - Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas St. The Jets fans don't think they need a QB... but everyone else in the league does. Although Rex Ryan says he's going with the 3 QB's he has, he'll find it tough to pass up on Freeman here at the 17th spot. The kid is 6'6" and has all the intangibles to play QB in this league. 18 Denver (via Chicago) (Phins Rock) - Robert Ayers, DE/OLB, Tennessee Ayers is one of the better pure pass rushers in this draft. The Broncos got their NT at 12, now it's time to add some pass rush. Other options would be Everette Brown, Brian Cushing, and even Rey Maualuga. 19 Tampa Bay - (Phinsfansc) - Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss The Buccaners go absolutely destroyed the later half of the season on the ground. The Raiders gashed them for over 200 yards rushing in the last game of the season, a game that if they would have won, would have put them in the playoffs. Jerry is the type of quick, penetrating DT that Tampa likes and he is a perfect fit for there scheme. I have read they have major interest in Michael Johnson, but he would be a reach here. I will go with Jerry. 20 Detroit (Dallas) (Coots) - Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss The Lions have so many needs here it isn't funny. They could go several ways. I see them taking care of their #1 pick here. 21 Philadelphia - PZ5413 - Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma St. The Eagles could very well give this pick up in a deal for Anquan Boldin, but with Moreno off the board, Beanie Wells seems like a reach. I think they fill the TE void here with the all-around TE Brandon Pettigrew. 22 Minnesota - (Phins Rock) - Alex Mack, C, California I've had Minny taking a WR every mock I've made until now. They are relying on a 6th round pick at the moment to man the center position, and even though WR is a need, they do have some talent in Berrian and Rice, so they keep on giving their franchise player more help. 23 New England - (Phinsfansc) - Rey Maualuga, ILB, Southern Cal Tedy Bruschi will be 34 and New England needs to continue to address there aging LB corp. They hit a homerun with Jerod Mayo last year and could again with Maualuga. The secondary needs to be addressed as well. 24 Atlanta - (Rich) - Evander Hood, DT Missouri The Falcons want to solidify the middle of their defense and this kid might just fit. Hood has great intangibles and strong all around skills. 25 Miami - (Phinsfansc) - Everette Brown, OLB, Florida State This would be a tremendous value pick, a kid that was projected at one point as a top 15 pick. There are questions about his ability to cover as an OLB in a 3-4 scheme, but I feel safe in saying that Matt Roth was not asked to cover that much and neither will Everette. He is quite possibly the best pure pass rusher in this draft. Relentless, work ethic, no character issues. Vontae Davis is a consideration here as well. 26 Baltimore - (Phins Rock) - Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois Easy pick here. While John Harbaugh is a no nonsense guy, Davis is just too good to pass up here, especially considering he fills a big team need here for Baltimore. A WR is obviously another option here for the Ravens; Kenny Britt or Robiskie would be the likely selection. Brian Cushing is another option here. 27 Indianapolis - (Coots) - Hakeem Nicks - WR - North Carolina The Colts will look to replace Harrison. I know he has had weight issues, but I think the Colts take him, and Peyton will love this guy longtime. 28 Buffalo (Phinsfansc) - (Philadelphia-Carolina) - William Beatty, OLT, Connecticut Buffalo just traded away disgruntled OLT Jason Peters. Langston Walker is servicable, but the Bills need to look to add a OLT and Beatty is a talented kid. 29 New York Giants - (Big Dave) - Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers Every pre-draft analysis that you read on the Giants says: "replacement for Plaxico Burress" is their greatest need. The team is deep except for the WR position. While they are aching for Hakeem Nicks, Britt is the next best choice here as they do not want another problem child in Percy Harvin ... they've done their time. Britt is a big receiver and has exceptional leaping ability. He needs to work on consistency in catching passes, but he is explosive and does not lack confidence. He is very good in the run game as he is an excellent blocker. Plaxico who? 30 Tennessee - (Phins Rock) - Michael Johnson, DE, GT Brian Cushing would also be under consideration because of how great value he would be here, but the Titans have 3 problem areas and this is one of them. Johnson brings a package of concerns with him, but the Titans are one team that can almost afford to miss with a first round pick. They take the guy with the most upside in this year's draft here. CB and WR would be other options here. 31 Arizona - (Coots) - Chris "Beanie" Wells, RB, Ohio St. If Boldin is somehow traded, a WR could be very possible here, IMO. Edgerrin James is pretty much all but done, and Tim Hightower, even though I think he is good, just doesn't have what it takes all the time. He was great in my Fantasy league at times last year, but they need someone who can pound that rock and do it on a consistent basis. 32 Pittsburgh - (Phinsfansc) - Eben Britton, OT, Arizona With Marvel Smith now gone via free agency and hurt most of the year anyway, the Steelers need to look to fortify there OL and Britton is a talented OL that will come in and help beef up the OL for the Steelers.
