Well guys, here we are in the most improbable season of all time for the Miami Dolphins and it comes down to one game to complete the biggest turnaround in NFL history and securing a playoff berth. In a 4:00 kickoff in the Meadowlands the Dolphins, coming into the game at 10-5 take on the Jets, who come in at 9-6. The equation is simple for Miami, win and you are in the playoffs and win the AFC East. Lose, and it is very likely you miss the playoffs.
Keys to this game for Miami are the usual, but more so in this particular game. I believe the Jets will come out and try to pound the leading rusher in the AFC, Thomas Jones along with Leon Washington to eleviate some of the pressure on Brett Farve. Yes, I said eleviate some of the pressure on Brett Farve. The Pro Bowl QB, by the way which is a joke comes into the game leading the NFL in interceptions with 19, and he has really struggled last 4 games for the Jets. There are now even concerns of arm and shoulder issues for Farve. With that being said, contain Jones and Washington and put the ball in Brett Farve's hands. As great as Farve has been over the years he has always had the tendacy to try to do to much and force passes and nothing has changed. Stop the run and get after Farve with the pass rush and there WILL be opportunities for the secondary to make plays.
Offensively, Miami will have a chance to attack a secondary that has struggled and a LB core that is nicked up a little bit and has struggled as well. Also, the once vaunted run D for the Jets has really struggled the last 4 games as well and it could be a sign of Kris Jenkins wearing down. I would still look to attack the Jets with the run game off the edges and I believe the Phins will have success with the run game as well, and look for some new wrinkles once again out of the Wildcat formation.
We have talked about how the special teams have improved the last few weeks and today will be a HUGE test for the coverage units. Leon Washington is as dangerous a return man as there is in the game. The Dolphins did a good job of controlling him in the 1st game and will once again need to be able to contain Washington. With the Jets struggling offensively, you don't want to have Washington hurt you with a big return.
It all comes down to beating a team that has been your nemisis for the last 6-7 years, a team that has cost you dearly in the past. The Dolphins have had a great season and nothing would cap off this regular season more than defeating the team that has been a thorn in your side for a while now and destroying there playoff hopes as well. Lord knows it is over due in regards to beating the Jets.
AFC East Champions. Sounds good, real good.
