Why Texas safety Earl Thomas will be draft No. 12 by the Dolphins
1. His 10 interceptions in two seasons at Texas proves he’s the ball-hawking free safety
2. His 4.37 speed makes him versatile enough to play cornerback in the NFL because he can stick with receivers.
3. Depth at safety is a major issue, and Thomas would immediately have an athleticism edge on Tyrone Culver and Chris Clemons

Why Not?

1. At 5-foot-10, 208 pounds, Thomas doesn’t fit the bigger is better size prototype this regime religiously uses.
2. Safeties aren’t premium positions in the draft, which explains why Bill Parcells has never selected a safety in the first round
3. Because he declared for the draft as a redshirted sophomore

I've always thought Clemons could fit the bill for Free Safety....we didn't get a great look at him this past season for a few reasons, main one being that Paul Pasqualoni was a terrible coordinator.

yeah I'd like to get a better look at both Clemons and Culver, but we definitely need to add some more talent at the position to compete. I don't think there's any chance in this world that this regime takes a safety with the 12th pick though

The Phins are having him in for a third visit. It could be a smokescreen but I doubt it.

I agree. They wouldn't use that many just to put out some false Info.

I like Earl a lot too, Hypo.

It just confuses me a little bit as I can't see Parcells drafting a smaller, more finesse type of a player.

Like some of the articles have said before... it's not all Parcells doing the drafting... Ireland is putting his own spin on things here and there.

I think Phins Rock asphyxiation with size has shown itself to be a concern...

Covertly, from an alleyway across from Dolphin Stadium...

Psst. Omar, hey man, listen here. Love your stuff sometimes, man, but uh, BP actually did draft a S with a 1st Rd Pick...uh yeah, bro...it was actually pick #10, as a matter of fact...and bro, it was his first-ever Draft pick as an NFL Head Coach, yeah...

Otherwise, nice article.
