Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland prepares his wish list
Quote: By Armando Salguero asalguero@MiamiHerald.com... so what’s the plan? This offseason will be about the three Ps. Playmakers. Points. Playoffs. I can tell you with certainty that’s how Ireland sees the coming months. He doesn’t just need players, the Dolphins have plenty of those. Ireland wants playmakers that make game-changing and game-defining plays. He wants to find ways to get the offense more points and score points on defense. ... In other words, Ireland isn’t going into the offseason to draft more guards or chase defensive tackles in free agency. Long’s time short That means free agent Jake Long’s days with the team could be over. Frankly, even when Long was great he never won or lost a game. He didn’t run for yards or catch passes, and he didn’t stop anyone from doing it. Lots of teams with worse left tackles went to the playoffs while the Dolphins stayed home. ... That would leave more salary cap space to spend on wide receivers. That means the Dolphins don’t have to be so frugal at tight end. The Dolphins would have more money to help Ryan Tannehill get the football in the end zone. ... so the Dolphins will try to re-sign Bush, according to team sources. But because they have Lamar Miller on the roster — and Miller is 218 pounds and runs a 4.4 and his time is coming — the Dolphins will only re-sign Bush at their price, not at his. ... Re: Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland prepares his wish list
Here is my wishlist in no particular order: 1 - Speedy Outside Receiver 2 - Outside Shutdown Cornerback 3 - Big Redzone Receiver 4 - Starting Caliber Right Tackle 5 - Seam Busting Tight End 6 - Ballhawking Free Safety 7 & 8 - Pass Rushers (Front Seven) 9 & 10 - Athletic Interior O-Linemen
Between our five draft picks in the first three rounds and our $60M in cap space I'm hoping we can add most or all of these things. I'm hoping we find the majority of them in the draft.

Re: Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland prepares his wish list
i think that this will be the year that we finally get 2 blue chip players in the draft (allowing us 2 instant plug-in starters for the 2013 season.)
I have a strong feeling that we will trade back into the first round after we use our first pick around pick #14.
Ireland can trade one of our 2nd and 3rd round picks to get back into the bottom of round 1. So if we were to sign a #1 receiver in free agency (i.e. Mike Wallace), that would then allow us to get 2 elite talents. (guys like TE-Tyler Eifert, DE-Ezekial Ansah, CB-Jonathan Banks, DE-Dion Jordan)
adding 2 of these blue chippers along with a receiver like Wallace would be enough to put us in the playoffs IMO. Then we'd still have plenty of other picks and plenty of money for other mid-level free agents.

If that happens, we're in a very good position to inject a lot of talent into this roster. As for Sherman, a friend of mine tells me that Sherman is grooming Zach Taylor, our quarterbacks coach, to be offensive coordinator in a couple of years. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sherman leave when his contract is up, and Taylor will be his replacement.

The guy is married to Sherman's daughter. He's got a free one way trip to becoming an NFL offensive coordinator. Why would he screw that up and leave?

Yes, Miami would not get the pick for Long until the 2014 draft. Of course that also depends on what who Miami signs in FA & I believe even their playing time is built in to that. If Miami loses Long & signs Wallace then most likely they would not get a pick for losing Long. If they did it would probably be a 7th.

Between our five draft picks in the first three rounds and our $60M in cap space I'm hoping we can add most or all of these things. I'm hoping we find the majority of them in the draft. What's the problem with Reshad Jones? He's played at a pro bowl level this year. Also Nate Garner is a starting caliber right tackle. He's also played pretty darn well. Better then Martin did IMO. And Martin is playing better now then Long did.
