I posted this because I never knew the line between a fine and what is ok in giving the ball to the fans after a TD.

Quote:
After Bears receiver Brandon Marshall scored a touchdown on Sunday against the Packers, a fan at Soldier Field came away with a souvenir. And Marshall got a fine.

Marshall threw the ball into the stands after scoring, which is against NFL rules. And the NFL has confirmed to PFT that the league fined Marshall $5,250 for his action.

The rationale from the league office is that a player throwing the ball into the stands creates the potential for crowd control problems: If fans are jostling for the ball, someone could get hurt.

Players are allowed to hand the ball to fans in the first or second row, but throwing the ball into the stands costs them. And it cost Marshall this week.

Unfortunately Miami hasn't had to worry about paying too many of these fines this year. Especially footballs being thrown by WR's after TD catches.

LOL , and if it were a home game if the ball was thrown past the second row nobody would be there to catch it.

I think the NFL has made some good rules over the years, but there are a few that I'd like for them to take back to make things more fun. This is one rule that needs to be repealed. What is more dangerous than a baseball screaming into the stands? Definitely not a football being thrown up in the stands.

It's a low impact rule, hardly ever coming into play.
There are a lot of other rules I would prefer to see eliminated or rethought.
