Granted, it's a lot more selective than other QB's, but all we heard about after the Pats game is how many guys he misses down field...apparently he doesn't miss much.

He doesn't throw that often beyond 30 yards. When he has, he hasn't been accurate. But yes, between 21-30 the guy has been very reliable.

"Deep" outs and "deep" comebacks are routes that are run 15-20 yards downfield.

Profootballfocus considers anything over 20 yards in the air a deep pass:

Regardless when you think of QB's in this game that have been known for their deep ball marksmanship, do you think of 20 yards? Just asking you personally.

Yes because the primary thing I look for when evaluating the ability of a quarterback to make throws downfield is how well they throw deep outs and deep comebacks.

To me, those are the two most important routes a QB needs to make to qualify as a viable NFL QB.

In passes over 21 yards Tannehill is 12 for 40 for 460 yards and 3 TD's and 1 Int

By comparison Aaron Rodgers is 18 for 46 for 578 yards with 10 Td and 2 Ints.

12/40 (30%) is notmore accurate than 18/46 (39%)

Whenever I tihnk of the phrase "deep ball" it always conjures the bombs. On another site they posted Tanny's and Rodgers .... wonder where the twitter guy got his stat from.

Of the 10 lowest-ranked deep passers, only one plays for a winning team — Matt Ryan. This would seem to indicate that the Falcons are doing it the hard way.

Finally, we take a look at the quarterbacks with the highest Accuracy Percentage on deep throws. While Accuracy Percentage weeds out some throws (like spikes and balls batted at the line), in this case, the only factor that makes it different than completion percentage is drops.

For the third time in a row, Brees tops the list, assuring his spot as the top deep passer in the past three seasons. Two of the three men competing for the Miami Dolphins’ starting job are in the Top 10, offering hope for Chad Ochocinco finding himself back on the highlight reels. While Andy Dalton has the second-highest completion percentage for quarterbacks on deep passes, the fact that he has yet to have a ball dropped on his long throws hurts his accuracy percentage relative to the rest of the quarterbacks.

On the other end of the spectrum, if you need one set of statistics to point to in a “JaMarcus Russell is a bust” conversation, this is it: of the 34 deep passes Russell threw in 2009, just one was completed … and seven were intercepted. Fellow 2007 draft class bust Brady Quinn wasn’t much better, with just five completions on his 34 deep passes in 2009. Those numbers contributed to keeping either from attempting a pass since that season.

I'd like to see another category: bombs. That would be any pass 35 yards or longer. Right now they are all lumped together.
