Jake Long's Season Possibly Over (Placed on IR)
Looks like torn triceps... MRI in the morning and we'll know. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miam ... 5243.storyQuote: The full diagnosis of his latest arm injury won't be known until Monday when an MRI is taken, but a team source said the Dolphins aren't optimistic Long, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, could finish the season playing with a muscle tear like Karlos Dansby has.

Re: Jake Long's Season Possibly Over
I think that was his last snap as a Dolphin. He cost to much for his low durability and erratic play. If Martin can play the position, we go shopping for a RT this year and save a boat load of money.

Re: Jake Long's Season Possibly Over
He has a torn triceps. I'd like for us to take a look at Martin for the remainder of the season to see what he has at LT. We are pretty much out of the playoff picture, so, we may as well evaluate players if he opportunity affords itself. I think this injury sets the Dolphins behind as I was hoping to franchise to Jake Long next year, but if Martin can elevate his play back at his natural postion, well, who knows. Quote: A Monday MRI will determine the injury's extent, but team doctors have seen countless injuries like this and typically have a pretty good feel for what happened after a short examination on the sideline. "It doesn't look good," one source told Darlington when asked about Long's injury. Long, 27, has become increasingly injury prone and at the same time ineffective in recent seasons. He's scheduled for unrestricted free agency in 2013. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/50049570/ ... ayer_news/

Re: Jake Long's Season Possibly Over
Damn. So we didn't eve get to see any playoff wins with such a promising player.
Why even bother any more with getting a few talented players. Until Miami gets a new owner they should stop with the lame illusion of trying to build a competitive team and just go 100 percent into celebrity coddling and selling Jet's Jerseys instead of the 75% of their efforts concentrated in these endeavors at the present time.

Re: Jake Long's Season Possibly Over
Quote: Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, it would cost the Dolphins $15.365 million to use the franchise tag on LT Jake Long in 2013. It's a ton of money for a player whose effectiveness has waned in the face of nagging injuries. Long is currently on the shelf after he sustained a triceps injury Sunday and could be done for the season. Schefter is the latest to suggest that Long may have played his final game as a Dolphin because the team can't -- or doesn't want to -- pony up that $15 million. Rookie Jonathan Martin projects to get a tryout at left tackle over the final four games.

Re: Jake Long's Season Possibly Over
Ireland is stuck in an odd place here. With Jake you have two big things working against re-signing him. One, the franchise tag would force us to pay him $15M next season. That simply isn't going to work. It would kill any opportunity we would have to make moves to improve the rest of the roster. And two, giving a declining and often injured lineman a long term deal also isn't going to work. So unless Martin falls flat on his face, I simply don't see a way we re-sign Long. He is going to command somewhere around $10M+ a season at the very least if a long term agreement can be reached, and considering the injuries he's sustained the last three years (back, shoulder, knee, tricep), that just isn't a smart move.
The only way I see Long staying in Miami is if, and this is a big if, Martin plays well the remainder of the season, and Long is willing to return and take on a lesser role (ie. play ROT). That lesser role would include a lesser salary obviously, probably somewhere around $6M-7M a season.
If I had to guess, I think we're going to make a low offer to Long, he'll walk, we'll get a compensatory pick, and we'll draft someone to take over at RT in either the 1st or 2nd round. Probably one of Sherman's kids from Texas A&M.

Re: Jake Long's Season Possibly Over (Placed on IR)
It's official. Looks like Martin gets a try out at LT. Quote: Dolphins lose LT Jake Long to injured reserve
Dolphins placed LT Jake Long (triceps) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The No. 1 pick in the 2008 draft will end up missing six games total in the past two seasons. He's battled up arm injuries since 2010, which may explain the dropoff in his effectiveness. Long is due to hit free agency in the offseason. It would cost the organization over $15 million to apply the franchise tag, which could signal the end of his Dolphins career. Long's agent will like try to set the market with his next contract. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/50078959/ ... ayer_news/

Re: Jake Long's Season Possibly Over (Placed on IR)
Well I guess we'll be alright. As this upcoming draft features two top offensive tackles that are familiar with our system, offensive coordinator and quarterback in Luke Jooeckel and Jake Mathews both from TAMU.
