Look like the pats are trying to heal up that crap secondary. The dude is still suspended though.

Quote:
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Thursday they have traded cornerback Aqib Talib to the New England Patriots. Terms are undisclosed at this point.
NFL trade tracker
Mike Thomas was the first player traded this week, going from the Jaguars to the Lions. See who else is on the move. More ...

This deal was surely made possible, in part, due to Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano's close friendship. It also was made possible by Talib's repeated run-ins with the law and off-field issues. Talib has currently served three games of a four-game suspension for Adderall use, violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.

Pats have a Bye.. so it won't be for a couple weeks til they get to use him.. Which works out well for them.. so he can learn the D.. Which I am sure Belichick considered.

I don't think you can practice under suspension

They're giving up a 4th and 7th round pick for him, and he is in the last year of his rookie contract. I think the Patriots think they are a cornerback away from getting back to the Super Bowl. Still, I think this is a big risk.

Talib has had more than a few second chances. He had multiple failed marijuana tests in college. His coaches at Kansas had nothing good to say about him prior to the 2008 draft. He got into a fight with a teammate at the rookie symposium. He swung a helmet at left tackle Donald Penn during practice and busted another teammate in the face with it. He’s had multiple arrests. He’s now suspended.

I think this move is a reflection of how little confidence the pats have in their defense right now. Unlike other sports, in football a mid-season pick very rarely can fix a problem that is already broken. It is going to take a lot more than even one stellar CB to get that defense back to Super Bowl calibre.

Funny how the Pats are starting to get desperate and are taking chances over the last few years with character players.

They know the window is closing. Even Brady seems to be aging this year. He doesn't have his usual hop in the pocket.

I think it was a good move. They're the best team in the AFC, IMO. Even if it's just a rental for the Playoffs, a 4th was worth it.

They got him and the Bucs 7th rounder for a fourth round pick. I'd say they got themselves a deal considering he may be motivated to resign with a Superbowl calibre team like the Pats.

Take away all of his personal problems of getting in trouble and the Pats have themselves a heck of a cornerback in Talib.

This kid is a good NFL corner and is a play maker. I am sure Belicheck is hoping to turn him around.

Of course, he is eligible to be active by the time Miami plays them.
