The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Thursday they have traded cornerback Aqib Talib to the New England Patriots. Terms are undisclosed at this point.

This deal was surely made possible, in part, due to Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano's close friendship. It also was made possible by Talib's repeated run-ins with the law and off-field issues. Talib has currently served three games of a four-game suspension for Adderall use, violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.

Talib has had more than a few second chances. He had multiple failed marijuana tests in college. His coaches at Kansas had nothing good to say about him prior to the 2008 draft. He got into a fight with a teammate at the rookie symposium. He swung a helmet at left tackle Donald Penn during practice and busted another teammate in the face with it. He’s had multiple arrests. He’s now suspended.

Funny how the Pats are starting to get desperate and are taking chances over the last few years with character players.
