Miami Dolphins release receiver Anthony Armstrong
I think we all smelled this coming ... and the stench was Armstrong's play on the field. Quote: Miami Dolphins release receiver Anthony Armstrong
The Miami Dolphins released Anthony Armstrong on Tuesday, trimming the receiver unit to create a vacancy on the 53-man roster.
Armstrong was inactive for last Sunday's 30-9 win over the New York Jets because he was leapfrogged on the game-day roster by veteran Jabar Gaffney, who caught one pass for 30-yards.
The Dolphins claimed Armstrong off the waiver wire on the eve of the regular season's start back in September after the Redskins made him one of the team's final training camp cuts.
Armstrong, who was on the Dolphins' practice squad back in 2008, only caught three passes for 12 yards during his second stint with the team.
During his two months with the Dolphins Armstrong was slowed by a hamstring injury, and a source say the coaches were "let down" by his inability to get open deep.
The Dolphins presently have five receivers (Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, Gaffney, Marlon Moore and rookie Rishard Matthews) on the 53-man roster, and two (Jeff Fuller and Brian Tyms) on the practice squad.
Armstrong, a former Arena Football lague standout who has caught 54 passes for 986 and five touchdowns in his three NFL seasons, became expendable because he doesn't have a significant special teams role.

 Re: Anthony Armstrong....
I don't think so but is this move to make room for Dwayne Bowe. I know it would be a trade but dropping a WR means we are down to 5 which is enough but it just makes you wonder if they're up to something....

Ireland is simply churning the bottom part of the receiver corps to try and fine a nice group for Tannehill to work with. It appears that Gaffney is looking good and has more upside as the season wears on than does Armstrong.

Interesting. There has been talk that Steven Jackson and Dwayne Bowe will likely be traded before the deadline. Do you think there is any chance we're still talking with KC about Bowe? Do you think there is any way this happens? Or is it dead?

I really want to see Matthews in these games more... he was the only solid WR in the preseason.

Quote: Jaguars claim receiver Anthony Armstrong off waivers from Miami
A day after trading away a wide receiver, the Jaguars have added a new one.
Jacksonville has claimed receiver Anthony Armstrong off waivers from Miami, a league source tells PFT. The Jaguars were looking to add a receiver to the 53-man roster after trading Mike Thomas to the Lions on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old Armstrong has played in five games for the Dolphins this season, catching three passes for 12 yards.
Armstrong’s best season came in 2010 with the Redskins when he started 11 games and caught 44 passes for 871 yards and three touchdowns. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... rom-miami/

Re: Miami Dolphins release receiver Anthony Armstrong
I am still ticked off that Armstrong dropped that perfectly thrown ball on that post pattern route by Tannehill that "could" have been a game changer in that Houston game opening day!
Glad we picked up Gaffney. In fact, I just picked him up in my fantasy league as I believe he will get his first touchdown as a Dolphin in Indy!!
