Smooth move Ireland, trading a great prospect at corner for a pick lower than we drafted him. Especially with the current state of our secondary this is moronic.

Man they are going to struggle in the secondary this year. They are loading up on draft picks for next year.

Yeap. Especially when you consider Miami passed on Hakeem Nicks to draft Davis.

Do we have to wait for this season to be a complete disaster or can we just fire Ireland now?

So this is how it felt to be a Bills fan over the past 10 years

I think we should all just accept the fact that this team is going to be TERRIBLE this year. They seem to care more about getting the "right" guys for their system/philosophy than catering to the previous play makers on the team. A goo dmove in the long run, but one that will make for a loooong season.

Ireland may be just doing the business of Philben. If Philben truly does not want a player Ireland may just be moving him. Ala Marshall.

Vontae rode that "prospect" wave as long he could. It's been time for him to show up and he never really lived up to all of the hype. I don't hate the move because I don't think Davis was all that. But it does leave this team thin at secondary. They're blowing it up, thinking big picture. This year will be brutal but they are doing the right things in the long run.

I'm sorry, but given Ireland's drafting, I have no faith that our second round pick is going to be better than Davis.

I'm with you. The Egnew pick with no Wr really was a HUH?

the trade makes sense, we shouldnt have to wait 3 weeks every year for the guy to get in shape. He obviously doesnt take his career too seriously and this will be a very high 2nd round pick. Good move

I remember reading this a week ago:
Quote:
That's even clearer. Miami's pass defense morphed from grotesque to gorgeous across the season's halves. This could have happened by random chance, but there's a very telling coincidence that I think might have had something to do with it. Cornerback Vontae Davis isn't on Darrelle Revis's level, and he can lack for consistency, but he has borderline Pro Bowl talent. And during that first nine-week stretch, Davis missed four games entirely while being forced out of two other games with injuries.6 Davis made it back for Week 10 and didn't miss a single game the rest of the way. The dramatic difference in DVOA obviously overstates Davis's impact, but he's an enormously valuable player to the Dolphins who makes them significantly better when he's healthy and in the lineup.

Y. Bell gone
B. Marshall gone
V. Davis gone
B. Hartline hurt

This team has no identity. I feel real bad for Ryan Tannehill. I was never a Jeff Ireland hater, I am now. DUMBEST move this season!

Wow...........Ireland needs to explain this. I could have understood a trade for a current player and maybe pick(s), but just a 2nd Round Pick!? This does nothing for us this season.

Even if Philbin wanted him gone, why did we have to settle for a 2nd round pick, we have until week 8 to trade?

Ireland must feel secure in his job.............if we have another losing season, that will be 4 in a row under his watch.

Man, I don't get this.

Anyway we flip this pick into a trade for a WR? ala Wallace?

i remember throwing crap during that 2008 draft when we passed on Nicks for this guy. And then the following year throwing more stuff when we passed on Jimmy Graham. Just imagine the offense we could have easily had. They make this harder than it has to be. LOL

that is exactly what I am thinking. I'm hearing alot of rumors about Ireland looking to acquire a wide receiver. But Terrell Owens just got cut so he may just pick him up.

Why did this move have to come now..........he's under contract through 2013. We had until week 8 to trade him this year........or we could have evluated his trade potential prior to the 2013 draft. This move does nothing for us this year.

I don't think he helped himself by fighting with Steve Smith the whole 1st quarter last week

They probably never thought they'd get that high of a pick for him. This is almost a 1st round pick so i applaud it. The Colts won't win more than 4 games this year so this pick will be around pick #35. That's a great pick to have. I like it.

NO to TO....NO NO NO. I'll cool down a bit & give Ireland a chance to bring in a WR. Normally, these things are already planned out with another team...........a bit disturbing if nothing comes of this very soon.

Just stop.

This was a terrible trade. You have to have THREE good CB's in this pass happy league, not just two. Not to mention giving up a near pro-bowl talent for less than the round we acquired him in. I don't care what Philbin thought of him early on ..... nothing he did warranted being jettisoned.

WTF is this whole team doing right now??

Simple question. If we were rebuilding in 2008 and now rebuilding 4 years later, then why in the world is he still here?

Here are the top 3 rounds worth of drafts since 2008.

2008: Long, Merling, Henne, Langford
2009: Davis, White, Smith, Turner
2010: Odrick, Misi, Jerry, Brandon Marshall (via trade)
2011: Pouncey, Thomas, Brandon Marshall (via trade)
2012: Tannehill, Martin, Vernon, Egnew.

So... 6 players drafted are no longer here and 2 picks were wasted on someone who is not here.

Out of the ones left, ONLY TWO ARE ACTUALLY POSITIONS THAT SCORE POINTS!!!!

If they're loading up for next year, I'm offficially on the Fireland bandwagon. Two useless 3rd rounders for Marshall, now Vontae for a 2nd round pick. They had better have another trade in the works THIS YEAR for a WR.

Agreed he was suppose to let Smith Abuse him...that would have been very Dolphin-like.

If this doesn't morph into a trade for a star WR, I'm officially back on the Fireland Bandwagon.

MiamiDolphins.com is reporting "The Miami Dolphins have traded cornerback Vontae Davis to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for two undisclosed draft choices."

Jay Glazer reported, it was strictly for a 2nd Round Pick. Need some clarification.

Ya, seriously ...... apparently VD should just take the abuse.

This isn't just Ireland though. Philbin has been on VD's case. He showed much better conditioning/improvement as the preseason went on ..... why get rid of players who are still young and learning how to be a pro?

Marshall just beat him right out of the gate in camp. And he was a better corner than Davis was last season. They must like what they see from Nolan Carroll, so why would you keep a former 1st round pick who isn't a starter. Fact is he never became the player he was suppose to be.

Is this a joke?

VD has played all of 3 seasons in his young career. The guy has shown plenty of upside.

How is he "unprofessional"?

Did he show up under-conditioned to all the other offseasons? He's "unprofessional" because he had to take a piss?

Come off it.
