With the April 22-24 draft 71 days away, just about everyone seems to expect the Dolphins to select Alabama inside linebacker Rolando McClain with the No. 12 pick.

That is, unless Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant falls to No. 12 and complicates the decision for Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano.

But ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., the forefather of the cottage industry of draftniks, is looking beyond Round 1, where most people with a computer and a knowledge of college football can come up with 32 players.


With McClain in hand for Miami at No. 12, Kiper expects the Dolphins to get a playmaker with the No. 43 pick, selecting USC wide receiver Damian Williams, LSU wideout Brandon LaFell or Ole Miss running back/wide receiver Dexter McCluster.

I'd like to see Myron Rolle, the Rhodes scholar safety from Fla. St. He looked good at the senior bowl and Mike Nolan could use a smart guy to play safety in his defensive scheme.
