Zach Thomas to donate his brain to science
Whatever is left up there. I wonder what kind of problems Zach is having. Quote: Former Dolphin Zach Thomas to donate his brain to science for head trauma study By Hal Habib
Palm Beach Post Staff Writer Updated: 2:03 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2010
Former Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas is donating his brain to science.
Thomas, who played for the Dolphins from 1996-2007 and has a history of concussions, was among the 19 active or retired NFL players who have joined a registry at the Boston University School of Medicine designed to study the effects of repeated head trauma on the nervous system.
Brain trauma in sports is of growing concern due to the discovery of a neurodegenerative disease called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) in a number of recently deceased athletes.
"I would like to make sure the game of football survives," Thomas said. "The scientific findings to date are clear that repetitive trauma to the head results in CTE in many athletes. I want to do my part to help the researchers understand this disease and to discover treatments and an eventual cure.
"This is not just about professional athletes who may know there are risks to the game. This is about making sure that the game is safe for all of those children playing the game today and in the future."
Other participants include current Chicago Bears linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer, and former NFL players Mike Haynes, Kyle Turley, Conrad Dobler, Don Hasselbeck, Keith Krepfle and Jack Thompson. Jason Belser, senior regional director for the NFL Players Association, also has joined the registry. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/dol ... 05838.html

Re: Zach Thomas to donate his brain to science
Which then makes you go ahead and assume its some sort of brain scanning... not literally taking his brain out of his head
