Bill Parcells isn't the genius after all

With so many members of the media genuflecting at the seat of Bill Parcells, it's time we pointed out that he didn't invent the game of football like he thinks -- or many in the media want you to think.

In 2009, Parcells drafted quarterback Pat White in the second round and receiver Patrick Turner in the third, even though White was never going to be a quarterback in the NFL. It was a stupid pick.

The minute I saw White in a minicamp for the Dolphins, I uttered this phrase: He is a how-not-to on playing quarterback. Turner never panned out, even though he looked the part.

Parcells gagged on those two picks. But you'll hear little about that. It's not wise to rip on The Tuna.

But I can tell you this: Those two picks smell worse than any rotten fish.

LOL! I guess when you are in the league long enough, you are going to be a genius once in awhile. He's overrated and he seems like he's a stubborn bastard with some of these players. Does his ego have something to do with? I'm just speculating....

I don't think he's overrated. He's done a great job of re-hauling each basement franchise he's been with. The Jets were 1-15 and he got them to the AFC Championship game in 3 years. The Patriots were a cellar team and he got them to the Super Bowl in 4(?) years. Obviously we know what he did in NY.

Dallas had nobody before he got there, and he left Jerry Jones with the most talented team in the NFL to dismantle.

We'll see where this 3rd year and his 4th year takes us, but I wouldn't necessarily be calling him overrated. He's done nothing but consistently prove he's one of the great of all time as far as rebuilding franchises.

What a dumb post.

Name an NFL coach/GM who hasn't struck out on multiple draft picks.

He made some terrible moves on those previous teams....Scott Secules for one Myron Guyton,Marion Butts, on and on .......But he knew how to fix them.....He is not overrated....He is a great coach and a proven GM...With WINS!!!!!!!

From I get on 790 & 560 sports radio, Parcells was not in favor of the White pick...

I think people in the media hype him being here up too much, remember his lasy 3 team departures have been from meddling owners/gm's not letting the coaches pick the players...

No concrete evidence of this, but I dont think BP stands over everyone and guides them like puppets the way the media wants you to picture it...

This.

I highly doubt he's the puppeteer he's portrayed as.

Let see. I believe Parcells has missed on a draft pick prior.

1997 - NY Jets.

2nd Rd. - ( 31 ) Rick Terry

1998
3rd Rd. - ( 67 ) Scott Frost ( 87 ) Kevin Williams

1999:
3rd Rd. - ( 90 ) David Loverne

This year will be very telling on his level of genius. I sure would love to know how much input he has on personnel moves though...and I think the team would be better if he were the actual head coach.

It's only two failed picks in three seasons. If I'm not mistaken I think that's pretty good.
1st - Jake Long, Vontae Davis, Jared Odrick
2nd - Phillip Merling, Chad Henne, Pat White, Sean Smith, Koa Misi
3rd - Kendall Langford, Patrick Turner, John Jerry

You can say that the rookies are a wash because they haven't played a down yet, and I'll agree to some extent, but if I'm not mistaken all three are slated to play this year. You can also say that Merling is a bust given his current status with the team, but I'm here to say that we were all pretty satisfied with his performance up until he screwed up. You could even make an arguement that Pennington should be starting instead of Henne. But get real, the fact is that our staff has been doing a very good job of building this team through the draft in the first three rounds. Just think of how sorry our drafting was prior to Parcells and Co. coming into town. Parcells may not be a genius, but the man knows how to draft talent and build a football team.
