FA and Draft Primer

Salary Cap

We are 3 million over the new cap as of today. Ja'wuan James' 5th year extension is on that.

Likely cuts: Timmons and Thomas, saves aproximately 10 million
Possible cuts: Pouncey and James.

Moves that may happen:

James and Tannehill are on the trading block.

Suh cut, restructures or is traded. Even if he's a post June 1st cut, Miami could restructure Quinn and whatever FA's they bring in to salary cap friendly deals for this year, taking the hit next year when they can dump salary.

Needs as of right now:???

I would have said G and pass coverage LB, FS, but expect Miami to roll with what they have, adding a few dumpster dives on the OL and possibly LB.

BupQB, K, LS

Possible big name FA Targets: Allen Robinson, wr, Trey Burton, TE, CJ Anderson, Malcolm Butler, cb

For the draft we have these picks:
1-11
2-10
3-9
4-24, 4-30
6-24
7-5, 7-11

Likely draft targets:
In the first
***Baker Mayfield, qb
**Da'Ron Payne
Josh Rosen, qb
Derrick Guice, rb

In the second
Sony Michel, rb
Dallas Goedert, te
Kyle Lauretta, qb

I don't have a clue what the plan is for the draft or for free agency.

One thing I do think, is that I am glad that Tannenbaum, etc., don't have a lot of cap room to play with this particular offseason. Just looked at the FA list. Unimpressive so far. That may change with releases over the next couple days.

Question? Since Cleveland traded Shelton, are they possibly in the market for a very pricey DT?

LOL, what they can't buy in FA, they will draft. There is some speculation Suh could be traded to them.

The plan is for Ndamukong Suh to be released as early as today as the Dolphins continue their attempt at a culture change – a plan that has purged arguably Miami’s three most talented players within last year. A lot riding on 2018.

Avery Williamson, Trey Burton, Tyler Eifert, Josh Kline, Nigel Bradham are early targets in FA.

Too many moving pieces right now. Suh is gone, sounds like James is gone and Pouncey may not be far behind.

Armando does not believe Pouncey is going anywhere. Or Tannehill for that matter.

Whoa! The Minnesota Vikings are talking to the agent of Drew Brees. That could change things.

Supposedly, Cousins informed Denver that they weren't finalists. He wants a lot of money, the Vikings aren't willing to give him, but the Jets are.

Corey Glenn traded from the Bills to the Bengal.
Bills trade involves a pick swap from 21 to 12.
Moving up to get their QB.

I am admittedly a baseball guy, not a football guy, first. So I understand baseball's contract and salary rules concerning the luxury tax. Granted, its straightforward, common sense, and easy.

Can someone point me in the direction of an article explaining the football salary, contract, and cap rules.

Thanks.

Browns, Bills, Broncos and Jets in good position for the Big 4.

Benjamin Albirght saying watch for a Buffalo-Indy swap. Also saying Cleveland will take QB 1st overall. Sounds like Buffalo has their sights on Josh Allen.

I'm guessing we're out the running for the big 4. That doesn't bother me, but watching how Buffalo dismantled their team to get picks and we couldn't do the same hurts.

Miami is signing Danny Amendola? That is being tweeted by NFL Network's Dan Hellie.

How does that make any sense?

Sam Bradford is signing with Arizona. I think teams are definitely prepping for the Big 4 to be gone in the top 6 picks with Buffalo moving up to get one at 2 or 3. Cleveland could be forced to take a QB at 1 and chance it that Barkley slips to 4.

For what it’s worth, Matthew Cannata tweeted out texts he received earlier this morning from an “insider” who said he was not only hearing Amendola to Miami but also Suh to NE.

Can't imagine they'd get more than a 4th or 5th for Parker. Carroo seems to be on his way out.

Really small WR group if Parker is out.

I still have hope that Parker can finally come into his own. Do you remember how dominant he looked at the start of training camp last year? He was "getting it" as far as taking care of his body and all of that, and looked like he was going to tear up the league.

And then...

2017 happened.

From what I'm seen, Parker lacks consistent desire. Just another waste Miami draft pick.

More rumors:

Suh and the Dolphins are still chatting about a restructure???

Miami and James didn't come to an agreement on contract, for now he's still on the extension.

Caroo is being shopped.

Have to think Round 2 in the draft for QBs could be as exciting and competitive as Round 1.

I saw that on James. Kind of makes sense but Sam Young did well as a replacement.

Who on earth would trade for Carroo at this point?

Suh the business man realizes he nets more money on this contract and in Florida than just about anywhere else.

Now, if we were the Patriots, we could find a team willing to give a second round pick for Caroo. It's hard fighting Sith Lords.

Or the Bills. Tanebaum needs to take lesson from Beanne and Dorsey.

After seeing the free agent signings throughout the rest of the league, I'm REALLY glad we're pushed right up against the cap this year and cannot spend much.
