Pay da' man! :yay:
Quote:
Ricky Williams has been sheepish about his football future. Last year, he signed a contract extension with the Miami Dolphins that will take him through the 2010 season.

Beyond that? Well, contemplating "beyond that" has been the story of Williams' life. And others trying to determine his next move has been folly.

Williams
But Williams does have a plan, and it includes playing for the Dolphins at least through 2011.

"Ideally, right now, I would like to get a year extension with the Miami Dolphins, play this year and next year and then really focus on my schooling," Williams said.

The Dolphins are aware of his desire for an extension. He's 33 years old, borderline ancient for a running back. But head coach Tony Sparano has marveled at Williams' condition in training camp and football operations boss Bill Parcells is a fan.

With top running back Ronnie Brown out with a broken foot last year, Williams rushed for 1,121 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Williams' base salary for this season is $4.35 million.

Williams is working toward his pre-med degree at Nova Southeastern University, the campus where the Dolphins' training facility is located. He wants to complete his degree at Texas and then get his doctorate in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

"It's really easy for me to get excited about school and the next part of my life," Williams said, "and that helps because it gives me a clarity to really know when it's time for me to stop.

"A lot of players get confused and get a little afraid when they get to the end of their careers because they're not sure of their identity outside of being a football player. It makes the end of their career a little bit stressful and foggy."

Yeah, I kinda figured the way he was talking at the end of last season that 2010 wouldn't be his last...

Give him what he wants... since coming back he's been a model player.

If they extend him, that gives them yet another draft to get a RB.

guarantee they will give him the extension...... some time in November.... after the CBA picture gets a little clearer, and after Ricky can prove that he can stay healthy. The FO is in the position to wait it out, but they wont wait til the offseason, guarantee they will find a way to pay him under the 2010 non-cap a hefty bonus, and give him a low salary for 2011 that is cap friendly. Barring, he remains healthy, and of course he'll be productive..... Dont think it matters much. It doesnt appear Ricky has any incentive to play for anyone else, and this is a matter that he takes very seriously, only because we know his 'fragile' nature when it comes to a potential move. He'll be a Dolphin in 2011 or retired..... which is great news

He's got Drew Rosenhaus as his agent now...

So, I don't think the Dolphins are gonna get away with a "Sticky Post Contract" this time....

I'd rather give Brown an extension.

But would like to have both in 2011.

Brown wants more than a 1 year, probably 4 - 5.
Ricky will probably take the same number as last year, and I doubt Drew can even persuade him to hold out....

So? I don't see the problem.

Iffy.

Anyway, I would give both extensions.

I see a huge problem... it's called a RB who can't stay healthy.

You have a problem this year.

1. Brown
2. Williams
3. Cobbs
4. Hilliard

Are the Dolphins going to keep 4 guys? Williams proved he was a worthy "backup" last year but when he took over full time he began to wear as the season went on. His fumbling increased with his carry count. Hilliard won't clear waivers for the practice squad.

17 01/03 PIT L 24-30 1 1 12 31 2.6 16 0 3 4 1.3 8 0 -- --

When he first took over he was a beast. As the season progressed and Miami was in the playoff hunt they loaded up Williams with carries...most notably in the J'ville game and continuing into the Tennesee game he struggled coughing the ball up 4 times. They turned more toward the passing game in the final few games. I'm not trying to dog Williams here, it is just that he is 33 years old.

I'm all for an extension, but not for the $4.35 million he's making this year. Sorry, but he's not worth that much. And not at 34 years old.

If we have the cap room, pay the man whatever he wants.

Not to mention he needs the money....

PR...my heart says pay him. The business side of me says that they won't extend his contract and he'll be a FA next year.

That would depend on our draft Junkie. Lexy will never be "the man".

"Lexy" was one of a few players who looked sharp last week. Williams is an aging veteran player who is on the downside of his career. If Miami only keeps 3 RBs, who gets cut?

Cobbs signed an extension like a week before his ACL injury last year. Lucky SOB. Lol.

Ronnie and Ricky are both in contract years, yeah.
