DAVIE — Dolphins defensive back Nate Ness was talking with a reporter after practice Monday when Bill Parcells pulled up in his golf cart to weigh in:

Parcells (to reporter): "You're looking at a one-quarter wonder."

Ness: "You've got to start somewhere though, right?"

Parcells (to both): "That's right. One-quarter wonder. You'd think his face is up on Mount Rushmore already!"

Ness (as Parcells drives off): "I love coach Parcells."

The Dolphins' executive vice president of football operations loves to keep his players humble. He didn't have to strain to do that with Ness despite his impressive debut in aqua-and-teal Saturday night.

Ness is a journeyman who had brief stints with Cleveland, the New York Jets and Seattle last year without seeing any game action and wound up on Miami's practice squad.

You gotta love Parcells...that's funny stuff. Ness made some good plays but he also gave up that long pass by biting on the play action. He'll be fine but he's got a long way to go.

He also gave up position on that slant on 4th down...it should have been caught, but the receiver dropped it. One-quarter wonder? Not sure he was even that.

Even so, it's hard to argue against a guy with 4 tackles, 3 passes defensed and 2 forced fumbles... especially with the lack of depth in the DB area on this team.

You didn't get the memo?

I started working on the new board skin already.

LOL. Maybe we should change the background to Jets green since a former MVP thinks there is nothing wrong with playing the enemy.

:jests:
