Dolphins | Ronnie Brown has no plans of holdout

Tue, 06 Jul 2010 14:11:35 -0400

Miami Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown (foot) would like to get a multi-year deal contract with the team but will not hold out during training camp if he does not receive a new contract, according to Omar Kelly, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

That is encouraging but I am still really worried that he is not signed yet.

Don't hold your breath... if he gets hurt again he won't be a Phin next year.

It shows what kind of player he is, to be honest, and what he brings to this team.

He's not holding out. He's there, working hard, getting in the reps.

Everyone, including the Dolphins front office, know how important he is.

He'll get a good deal AND still be there for all the workouts with the new offense.

That is an excellent point I had not even thought of. How many other prima donna athletes hold out with a contract but they just don't like it. Here is Ronnie Brown without a contract coming to camp and working while they are still trying to get a deal done. I gotta be honest I am not sure if I would do the same thing if I was Ronnie.

Yep, love the attitude. Ronnie may actually realize that his past injury history means he needs to go out and prove that they should resign him rather than holding out and demanding it. He is to be commended for that. He has not had a series of "prima donna" type injuries. He has had his share of season-enders. I hope he has a fantastic season with no injuries and the big numbers he has hinted at throughout his career.

That being said, the way of the NFL seems to be going toward not signing RBs over the age of 30 to long-term deals. With the majority of teams using 2-back and even 3-back systems on a regular basis, it just doesn't make fiscal sense. Consider that the Jests let one of the more productive backs in the league last year walk primarily because of his age.

Funny how that trend has devalued all but just a few top backs in the league. Ronnie's window of opportunity may have closed no matter what he does this year.

Ronnie has been standup for the most part. I remember at Web Weekend he took pics and signed while Jesse Chatman wouldn't even look at us. Jesse Chatman? He was lucky to play football for as sorry as he is. LOL!
