Post FHP: Truck belonging to Dolphins player found abandoned
Quote:
A pickup truck belonging to a Miami Dolphins player was found abandoned after a crash on Interstate 595 earlier this month, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

The 2008 Ford pickup truck is owned by Dolphins wide receiver Brian Hartline. FHP is investigating who was driving the truck at the time of the crash. The vehicle had to be towed away.

According to authorities, just after 4:30 a.m. on July 3, the pickup truck collided with an abandoned 2002 Cadillac Escalade on Interstate 595 just east of Interstate 95.

"His vehicle ran off road and hit the parked car," said FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky. "We don't know who was driving the vehicle."

PFT: "Brian Hartline flees scene after car accident"
The details sound way to fuzzy to me for this headline to be accurate without an "alledgedly" thrown in the title somewhere, but nevertheless, here's the story from PFT:

Brian Hartline flees scene after car accident

Posted by Evan Silva on July 13, 2010 12:38 PM ET
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that a 2008 Ford pickup truck registered to Dolphins wide receiver Brian Hartline was discovered abandoned following a crash on highway I-595 earlier this month.

The accident reportedly took place at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 3. Hartline's vehicle collided with a parked 2002 Cadillac Escalade just east of I-95. The pickup was ultimately towed from the scene.

"His vehicle ran off the road and hit the parked car," said Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky. "We don't know who was driving the vehicle."

An FHP trooper attempted to contact Hartline's wife, and the call was returned by Hartline's attorney. The lawyer assured police that his client was uninjured, which was probably a little less than what authorities wanted to know.

Florida Highway Patrol still hasn't heard from Hartline, and a Dolphins spokesperson says the team is unaware of the incident.

In Miami, Hartline is considered the heavy favorite to start opposite Brandon Marshall this season. A fourth-round pick out of Ohio State two Aprils ago, Hartline impressed as a rookie with a 16.4 yards-per-reception average. He ranked second in the league to only San Diego's Vincent Jackson in percentage of catches for first downs.

Just how many abandoned vehicles litter the sides of Florida Highways?

I'm sorry if I missed it, but I do not see anything in there saying Hartline was drunk? So until he is proven guilty... why does everyone keep saying he was drunk?

Also, If my truck was stolen, I would think I would call someone about my truck missing. Not saying he was or wasn't drunk. But it is weird, according to the report, that he hasn't talked to the police.

Post Re: FHP: Truck belonging to Dolphins player found abandoned
From the PBP:

Quote:
FHP spokesman Mark Wysocky said investigators have been trying to reach Hartline to question him about the incident, in which Hartline's truck was found abandoned at 4:30 a.m. just east of the intersection of Interstate 95 and I-595.

"As of now," Wysocky said, "we haven't been able to determine who was driving at the time of the crash."

Wysocky said the truck, a 2008 Ford, crashed into a 2002 Cadillac Escalade and that there was "significant damage" to both vehicles. Both were unoccupied when police arrived on the scene and had to be towed away.

There is some question as to whether Hartline was even in South Florida at the time of the incident. According to his Twitter account, he was vacationing in California in late June and in his native Ohio in early July.

I don't think anyone leaves their car on the side of the road at night after an accident unless they felt they'd fail the sobriety test.

That's my guess, but of course, in America we are innocent until proven guilty. He's acting guilty.

""If"" he was driving when it crashed, then he was drunk. There is no other reason that I can think of to flee the scene of an accident where no one else was involved. I don't fault him though, better to get a ticket for that than to get a DUI. I remember Crowder did the same thing a year or two ago. He got off pretty darn easy if I remember correctly.

I was driving. Brian loaned me his 08 beater Ford to move a couch, I was on my blackberry posting on Phinfever and ran into a parked car (on the interstate). I didnt want to wake anyone up so I just walked home...

Hope this clears it up for everyone :ann0y:

Kinda weird ... happens on July 3rd & the news is just coming out now??

Article says his wife was in California , it just says Hartline was not injured in the crash.

I dont think he has to much to worry about here no matter what the facts & circumstances are ... Wasnt there even a gun involved in the Crowder case & he maybe got a slap on the wrist.

Funniest thing about this article was this line -

Running back Ronnie Brown and cornerback Will Allen were arrested and charged with driving under the influence, while defensive linemen Phillip Merling and Tony McDaniel were arrested following domestic disputes

followed by this line -
Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said on June 9 that he would remind his team to stay out of trouble during the summer break. Training camp opens on July 30.

"It's something I do every year," Sparano said. "We have these talks. I'll certainly address them and any of those issues and make sure when we send them on their way that the message is very clear."

These guys if not for football are just blockheads

Thank you Rich & Hen.
Man, we are so eager for news, it's almost sad.
I hope he's in the clear, but he's a big boy and will have to deal with it what ever it is.

Innocent until proven guilty, I get it, BUT, if you had to bet....there are two logical outcomes. 1) He left the scene for some reason (drunk) or 2) he lent his truck to a friend. I would think he would have called the cops if someone stole his truck. These guys just keep putting themselves in these situations.

Yep, he can clear it up with one statement. You can't totally blame the fans for jumping to conclusions.

Of course you can. They have total control about how they think. They choose to jump to conclusions. No one is forcing or coercing them to do it.

He is not helping anyone's thought process by not talking to police... if everything was all "well and good" he'd have no problem talking to them, don't you think?

Do we know why he isn't talking to police? Is he available to do so?

No, we don't know.

Unfortunately folks unless someone was tested for a BAC there is no DUI or any other charges related to it...

A simple leaving the scene, no injuries, nobody was in the parked caddy....

Pretty easy to figure out... Speculate all you want, but Hartline is not in any kind of serious legal trouble...

Yep. Smart move if he's guilty. A DWI is a mark that would be against him that stays with him his entire NFL career.

According to Sparano, Hartline was issued a citation and paid a fine and the case has been put to rest.
