I'm with Williamson ... "ride him hard".

Contract year push for Brown?

In the opinion of Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Ronnie Brown's long-term future with the Miami Dolphins will be greatly determined by his performance in 2010. Let's look back at Brown's offseason:

Before the draft, there was another round of trade rumors regarding Brown. While we don't know for certain that Brown was on the block, from the buzz we heard, we know that Bill Parcells and his henchmen were and are unlikely to sell low on one of their assets. Given Brown's health status, it's also unlikely any other team would offer fair value to the Fins.

In that sense, it looks like Brown will be back in Miami for 2010. Beyond that? It's up in the air, in the mind of Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. As for Brown's rehabilitation from a Lisfranc fracture, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said, "We'll see. He's doing pretty well," per Brian Biggane of the Palm Beach Post. As a restricted free agent, Brown has a one-year offer on the table, which he has yet to sign. After 2010, he could be looking for employment elsewhere.

Quote:
Matt Williamson: Fins should ride him hard in 2010

"[Brown] is up for free agency at the end of the season, and it seems highly unlikely that Miami brings him back, so he is another guy that the Dolphins should not hesitate to wear into the ground. That might sound harsh, but this is a business. If used in a rotation, Brown still can be effective. Even going back to his days at Auburn, Brown has never shown to be a true workhorse runner. He does catch the ball well. He needs to re-establish himself in this capacity, which should be a goal for 2010."

For me it really doesn't matter whether he has 10 years or 1 year left on his deal. Use him in the most effective way possible; this team is trying to make the playoffs, not squeeze every penny out of one of its players, especially if it would mean hampering the team's chances. We need both cogs of the R&R Express healthy in January.

to me this situation is really unsolvable. Both the phins and Brown are on the same side of the contract negotiations but still won't get a deal done.

IMO, the dolphins won't give Brown a long term deal because of his injury history and Brown wants a long term deal because of his injury history. Brown knows that if he can't get a deal done and gets another season ending injury his career would likely be done. At this point, he really has no option but to not get hurt and sign the tender. Only then will he get the payday he wants.

I agree PR. I also hope they re-sign both backs sometime prior to the 2011 season, as they are both still very effective (while healthy). If Ronnie asks for too much, I would understand why they wouldn't re-sign him. I hope he listens to his heart and not his agent.
