Just a quick Dolphins note in advance of this week’s OTA days:

Justin Smiley, who remains on the roster, won’t be a Dolphin for more than another two weeks. That’s what I have been assured. The Dolphins are still trying to trade him, but if they can’t (and it will be difficult to get much other than a conditional late-rounder), they are expected to release him prior to the May 28th minicamp and allow him to seek employment elsewhere.

Also, I’ve been told that other media reports — about the state of Smiley’s shoulder — have been “overstated.” Yes, it is a chronic problem, and it does require maintenance, but he isn’t close to retirement or anything like that. He should still have a chance to be a functional player somewhere. It just doesn’t appear that the place will be here.

at this point Smiley is not news unless he is 1) taken off the trading block and allowed to practice with the team, 2) traded to another team, or 3) released by the Dolphins. Once one of those 3 things happens, then that will be news. We have already heard a million times about how he is not in the plans for the upcoming season.

don't know why Ethan blogged this no-brainer? :hithead:

Who started the "his shoulder is shot" rumor? That killed any trade value that he had.

None since we're in the uncapped year.
