Five thoughts from Dennis Hickey's news conference as Dolphins' general manager:
1. Ross didn’t tap-dance around the problems atop the organization that led to Jeff Ireland leaving and Hickey being hired. Namely, coach Joe Phibin and Ireland didn't get along, as has been reported. He didn’t mention draft or personnel disappointments as far as Ireland leaving. “We needed to have harmony within the organization,’’ he said. “We had to think as one organziation. … operate with one mindset in all things and all situations.” ...
2. Ross confirmed the business model will be as previously reported. "It was not any unusual structure,'' he said. Hickey will assemble the 53-man roster. Senior vice president of football operations Dawn Aponte, “will be reporting to him, assistting him,” Ross said.
Asked why it was important for him to maintain control of Philbin's future, Ross said, "I own the team. Let's start there."
5. Ross said knows of the findings of the Ted Wells investigation. ...
