Should the Dolphins have kept Jake Long? This is where a lot of fans will go. I understood completely why the Dolphins didn’t re-sign him. Let’s remember Ireland did make Long an offer in the neighborhood of what he took with St. Louis. Long had shoulder and knee issues the past two seasons. When he played, he was great. But he hadn’t finished the past two seasons, players generally don’t get healthier as they get older and that had to be a big factor in not matching St. Louis' offer.

I am saying no, but its purely in hindsight..

I think this team is heading in the wrong direction, and without some serious changes from the coaches on how they plan and execute every week, we will be in the market for a new staff soon... Ross spent a lot of money to win, and our big FA splashes are looking like dead fish...

I wanted him franchised...That wasn't feasable i guess

Signing him long:) term would have been a mistake...That being said the back up plan should have been to get Solder...Or atleast drive up his price so the Patriots had to pay more...His price tag actually fell as fa went on.

Thats were the mistake lays.

I voted NO....Miami made Jake Long a very competitive offer, not much off of what St. Louis offered. Also, Miami had a chance to get a better OLT in KC Brandon Albert, and did not pull the trigger.

I have more issues with that then not re-signing Jake Long.

That was the only way Miami was getting him back. He chose St Louis.

We can second guess it but we got mckinney now and maybe that won't do a lot talentwise, we still have a chance at taking the division! :runwiththeball:

It would have cost Miami $15,365,952 to tag Jake Long.

Which hammers home the point that he wasn't coming back by his own choice. The only way was for Miami to focus far too much money on one position and they never wanted that.

Based off his contract demands alone, hell no. It was absolutely the right move to let him go, but the move to go Jamar Taylor over Brandon Albert...? Not so sure about that...

It was my understanding that Miami could have had Albert for a NEXT year's number #2 pick.

It is water under the bridge now, but IMO, not signing Long back was fine, but not going after Albert and even slightly sweetening that deal to land him is the mistake non-move that I look at.

You have GOT to protect the QB and the Dolphins brass did not do enough to bring in the right talent in that area.

Interesting article in the Boston Herald this morning by Matt Chatham (former Patriot) which describes Martin's lack of strength as being a huge problem. It was kind of disturbing when he mentioned how often he sees Martin on the ground after watching film.

Some of the biggest knocks on Martin was his body being built like play do. Although this past off season folks have said he worked out harder and although I know there are plenty huge lineman that aren't built in the NFL, my perception of Martin is that he looks soft.

Just about everyone was in agreement media/fans that Miami should not give Long a large deal considering his injury problems and drop off in play. To come back now & questioning it is not right.

The issue is not letting Long go, but having a backup plan that works. Their plan did not work.

With a serviceable right tackle and a modest upgrade from John Jerry we wouldn't be discussing this topic. Oh, and maybe getting a little creative with Yeatman to add some extra protection.

Exactly. For all their offseason moves this was the one position they left up to chance. Without a solid back up plan.
