Thad Lewis was sent for X-rays following Sunday's Week 6 overtime loss to the Bengals and his right foot is in a walking boot.
Lewis played the entire game but was noticeably limping a bit in the second half. The Bills can ill afford to lose Lewis, who was promoted from the practice squad to make the start against Cincinnati in the wake of E.J. Manuel's (knee) injury. Lewis accounted for three touchdowns Sunday, turning the ball over just one time on a lost fumble. The Bills travel to Miami in Week 7.

Quote:
Thad Lewis completed 19-of-32 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns in Buffalo's Week 6 overtime loss to the Bengals.
Lewis added 17 yards and another all-purpose touchdown on seven rushing attempts. On the opening drive, Lewis scored from three yards out on a quarterback draw. He and the Bills stalled for much of the game thereafter before turning it on in the fourth quarter as they rallied to score two unanswered touchdowns and force the game into overtime. Those two Lewis scores went to Marquise Goodwin and Scott Chandler. Lewis is clearly better than undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel, but Lewis was spotted getting X-rays after the game. The Bills can't afford to lose him with E.J. Manuel (knee) still sidelined. Buffalo travels to Miami next week.

Hopefully, Miami has a good game plan against Buffalo's defense as that is their key to beating Miami. It probably won't be their offense, but they have some guys on defense that can swarm Tannehill and espcially with poor blocking.

Flynn? I hope so. He's terrible.

It makes you appreciate how tough Tannehill is. He's taken probably the worst beating that any quarterback has taken this year.

Rumor has it Flynn has an arm injury that is further limiting his already lacking velocity.

Didn't sound like Lewis was doing too bad yesterday but then he got hurt.

I would hope if Flynn is signed that Philbin could help identify his tendencies and have the defense react accordingly. His weak arm would let the defense focus on shutting down Spiller and Jackson.

I want Sunday to be a resounding win, not a close game where Miami plays down to the competition.

Yeap & Miami could be turning him into the next David Carr. A Qb who checks out the pass rush prior to checking out the Wr.

The bills are a tough team despite their record. They get good pressure on the QB and their secondary is ballin'. They are perfectly matched to give Miami fits. I just hope Miami can stop their ground game. If this game goes into the 4th quarter less than a TD...the Bills could pull the upset even without a viable signal caller. I expect Lewis will play.

You are rechiming my exact thoughts Junkie. Make no mistake, we don't improve protection for Tanny, Buffalo will get after the fins.

Keys to the game are simple: You commit everything you have to stopping the run. Thad Lewis has nice touch on the deep ball and nothing else. He runs the read option well but commit to the run and make tackles.
On Offense - This is the part where Miami will struggle. The Bills sit on the short stuff, dare to make you beat them deep. They often blitz 5-6 guys and still have tight man covage downfield. This is another game where RT should take off running on a couple of plays. The problem is the Bills have a decent pass rush, an excellent MLB and a great secondary. There will be very little space between WRs and DBs. They will man u up deep, so you can take your shots. Note to Sherman - running wide is a gameplan for disaster.

The quick screens to WRs, end arounds, shovel passes, totally destroyed the Bills Defense against Cincy .... all things Miami has shown no ability to run well. So the Bills Defense really is geared to stop a quick passing scheme like Miami's on the slants and outs.

The Bills have given up 20+ points in every game and did so against an anemic Pats offense, an erratic Geno Smith, Joe Flacco WITH 5 interceptions, and Brandon Weeden.

I don't think Miami will have trouble putting points on the board if they find a little balance. I worry about Tannehill getting injured via a fierce pass rush and Buffalo slowing the game down with their running backs. Something tells me we're going to see Tannehill on the move a lot. I'd also like to see deep shots to Hartline.

Don't underestimate the value of a healthier Miami defense.

Miami's defense is giving up 390yds a game. They have a good pass rush but it won't be important this weekend. Thad Lewis isn't a pocket passer who is going to beat you with his arm. They have the 3rd ranked rushing offense. Miami needs to adjust their approach..8 in the box. Make Lewis make plays with his arm but don't let him beat you wtih his legs along with Jackson and Spiller. This is an easy game from a DC perspective...the problem is the Bills run it even when everyone knows it. On offense...Byrd is back on defense. Lewis makes guys miss in the backfield. Miami has been known to miss QBs who are less agile.

A source tells ProFootballTalk that Bills QB Thad Lewis has been diagnosed with a mild foot sprain.
Lewis' MRI revealed no ligament damage, leaving him day to day. There's a chance he can play through a mild sprain against the Dolphins in Week 7. If not, the Bills will need to add a quarterback as E.J. Manuel (knee) isn't close and Jeff Tuel is a developmental prospect they don't want to expose. Free agent Matt Flynn was in Buffalo for a workout Sunday.

We should have this game well in hand at the half. Only thing that worries me is that it is the ww game & the Dolphins have really stunk it up for most of those games.

I feel like we play down to opposing teams levels sometimes.

I just got a text notice saying the Bills have now signed Flynn. Hopefully he starts, should be a field day for what should be a healthy defense.

I have learned that NOTHING is predictable nor easy for the Miami Dolphins. Right now, I would just like to see a major adjustment on the offensive line as that alone would give us a ton of optimism that our season can still be a good one.....you don't fix that and even a team reeling like the Bills would feast on Tannehill.

They need to run a jumbo package the majority of this game. Yeatman as a second Tackle on Williams side with a bootleg package to Clay who will match up well all day long, and hit Wallace Deep early!

Miller can gash them off tackle if Pouncey can block the second level. No more wide sweeps!

Thigpen end around would be a nice little touch too.

Stack the Speed package up on an overload blitz and let Grimes sit on the opposite side for a Spiller dump off

Put Patterson on Stevie (who is hurting) and hope the size advantage factors in our benefit.

Make Carpenter try to hit 48 yd field goals all game, and see how he likes the return to Miami

Miami should win 27-17 and finally make us stop biting our nails in the final 2 minutes

Mario Williams has been beasting this year too... hopefully with our two weeks of preparation we've come up with a plan to contain him.
