DAVIE – Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, perhaps admirably, said he could be blamed for many of the nine sacks he’s taken this year.
Tannehill said if he’d step up into the pocket the sacks might not happen.
“Half those sacks are probably on me,” Tannehill said. “So you can’t look at it as just as a number and say ‘Oh, you've given up nine sacks; the offensive line has given up nine sacks.’ “It’s a team game, and if I don’t step up then it’s my fault.”
Tannehill, of course, was doing what any good quarterback would do -- he’s protecting his teammates, his pass protectors, the offensive linemen, tight ends and running backs.
Frequently the pocket has been collapsing around Tannehill and stepping up wouldn’t help.
But here's what interesting: Perhaps this week Tannehill, an agile quarterback, will opt to use his feet more when the pocket collapses.
Or maybe he’ll throw the ball out of bounds. ...
