Charles Clay, a fullback/tight end since he was drafted by the Dolphins in the sixth round two years ago, can scratch fullback off of his title. Clay was in Miami’s starting lineup at practice today and Offensive Coordinator Mike Sherman said Clay would be the starting tight end if the season started today -

If Charles can improve his consistency, he can be what Dustin Keller was suppose to be, which was a seam threat.

I've always liked Clay, but he's not at the level Keller was. Let's hope this works out. I don't think losing Keller is the end of the world (unlike some on here), but we have to replace that threat down the seam

Clay is no Keller, but I think he has potential to be a much better receiving option than Fasano.

You know, he needs to get out there and show us some consistency now. He needs to step up.

Anyone know how he did at practice as the starting TE?

He definitely had some nice routes and good opportunities last year. He just needs to be a semi-security blanket for Tannehill and do enough to draw the double coverage away from Wallace.

Sims and Egnew were drafted for this offense, I sure hope one of them emerges as a TE by mid season.

Clay is the starting TE by default until one of them can step up to the plate.

Traditionally, the next preseason game vs TB is the one most resembling the regular season. Is Clay going to starry at TE? What's the over/under on how many catches he gets?

The third year can be the turning point for some players.

Dolphins 24
bucs 13

Clay - 2 receptions, 20 yards

Actually, I would like to see more Hartline tonight.

I did not see the game last night, but saw the highlights, or maybe I should say lowlights for Charles Clay.

I mentioned him being more consistent earlier and nothing has changed, as he dropped a couple of passes that should have been nice gains.

Time for this kid to step the hell up and he is not looking like he can right now.

The time for him to step up was last night. He needed to seize the opportunity. I really thought he would. He did not. I don't think the Dolphins will spend any more time waiting on him.

They're not giving him up.

The common theme in this league right now is that you need two capable TE's on the roster for opening up the passing offense.

ESPN's AFC West Blog suggests Chiefs TE Tony Moeaki as a possible trade target for the Patriots.
Our own Evan Silva made the same suggestion on Twitter Wednesday. The oft-injured Moeaki is currently rehabbing a knee scope and is questionable for the start for camp, but when healthy he has the skill set of a versatile move tight end. He's also now behind both Anthony Fasano and rookie Travis Kelce in Kansas City, and was coached by current Patriots assistant Brian Daboll last year. ESPN also suggests Broncos TE Joel Dreessen as another possible trade target. Jun 27 - 8:30 AM

Yep, then Tony can sit on the bench with our 1st and 2nd rd picks nursing injuries. Fasano is ahead of this dude. No thanks....

I've been banging the table the past 3 drafts for us to select a tight end weapon, and no Egnew doesnt count, Hated that pick.

Should have grabbed Vance McDonald or Zach Sudfeld this past draft.

Jordan Keller and Sims.....

Eifert is starting?

Eifert can't possibly be any good..He is not starting

TE's don't get paid what pass rushers do, for a reason.

Why? He's a 3rd string TE that is hurt.

Tony Moeaki caught one pass for 24 yards in Saturday's third preseason game against the Steelers.
Unless he suits up for Thursday's finale, Moeaki finishes the preseason with just two catches for 26 yards. A rough summer from Travis Kelce appears to have sewn up Moeaki's roster spot, but he could still end up a "surprise" cut next weekend. Moeaki's fantasy appeal is long gone.

He's not hurt anymore.

A good case for the Chiefs giving him up is definitely not being made then, if Kelce is struggling.

Would take more than a conditional 6th.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports Packers TE Brandon Bostick is drawing trade attention.
Werder reports the Packers view tight end as a position of strength, and are open to making a move. A second-year undrafted free agent, Bostick is a former college basketball player who has drawn raves for his athleticism. He has three catches for 29 yards this preseason. With Jermichael Finley, Andrew Quarless and D.J. Williams also in the fold, the Pack could easily afford to move Bostick.

I'd feel better about a trade if we're trading for at least a somewhat proven commodity. We have enough potential TEs to get someone hurt.

Well with Julian Thomas emerging in Denver that leaves them with 3 starting caliber Tight Ends in Thomas, Tamme and Dreesen.

Perhaps one of them will get cut? I know Tamme and Dreesen leave a lot to be desired, but at least they can catch the darn ball. They're not going to blow the game wide open, but they'll be consistent.

If the Phins were looking for a trade, I'd say take a look at Clay Harbor up in Philly... underutilized player with good athleticism.

Maybe they can swing one of their "good value" trades. Seriously I think they're waiting for the first cut down and if no veteran alternative comes up, they'll hit the trade market. Clay has been terrible in the preseason, but he has shown the ability. It might just be a matter of chemistry with RT. Give it time.
