Bingo. I had high hopes for that guy too, I loved watching him in college

Heck yeah. I could imagine Marino to Green for years. Sucks he was always injured.

What happened with Green set this team back big time in the WR corps. This team passed on Randy Moss and other talented receivers because of Green.

One of the biggest misconceptions in Miami Dolphins history. There was not a point in the 1998 NFL draft that the Dolphins had the chance to draft Randy Moss.

I am curious though as to what other Wr Miami passed on because of Green?

Was there not a draft day trade with Green Bay that we made two or three picks before Randy was taken? Am I remembering wrong?

There was. We traded the 19th pick to Green Bay for what wound up to be John Avery and Charlie Batch (a pick that was traded to Detroit for several players). Two picks later, Minnesota takes Randy Moss.

Wrong again, Scot. The Dolphins originally had the 19th pick in the draft and traded down ten spots. The Vikings took Moss with the 21st pick.

Yeah Tommy is on the money with this one... it was recently covered in an NFL.com article about the worst draft moves in NFL History too lol.

Back to the awesome trivia game!

Here's a pretty easy one:

This fan favorite was touted as way too small to play in the NFL and fell all the way to the 5th round in the 1996 Draft.
He went on to play 14 seasons, recording over 1000 tackles, 20+ sacks, 17 interceptions and 4 touchdowns.

I think he shoud be in the Hall of Fame... I'm sure some of you do too.

Name that player...

Correct, but Miami traded down before the draft ever started. It was about 4 Hrs later before they even knew Moss was available at the 19th spot. So there was not a point in the draft when Miami was able to select Moss. So therefore they never passed on him. JJ would have never passed on Moss.

See above comment.

It was a bad move after the fact and that is why it made the list of worst draft moves, because Moss was available and frankly no one expected him to fall. My point in all this is Miami never choose to not draft Moss. Every one could tell JJ was kicking himself for making that trade so soon. He would have loved to have had Moss and not Larry Shannon.

They traded down ON THE DAY OF THE DRAFT. So, originally they were in position to draft Moss.

Actually, Moss was drafted where pundits were saying he was going to be drafted. No one had him going in the top ten with all his legal issues.

Correct. Just because Miami was originally there, does not mean they passed on Moss. Passing on a player means a team decided to do something else KNOWING the player is available.

JJ made a bad decision by trading down before the draft. I recall listening to the pre-draft and hearing the trade & going crap. No chance to grab now, because I was hopeful after seeing Dan Pompei mock draft.

Actually no. Only one person had Moss falling that far. Dan Pompei when he was with Sporting News Mocked him up. No one had Kevin Dyson going before.

Again I ask. Other WR they passed on.

Agreed. Here we go:

This Dolphin was picked up by Don Shula in 1991 and spent the next 5 seasons at DL. Shula referred to him as one of his most "underappreciated" players. However it took Jimmy Johnson one minicamp to show how much he appreciated this guy. He was cut in the 1996 offseason after refusing a pay cut and no one picked him up

This player spent 14 years with the Dolphins, but had his best statistical year, the one season he played for another team.

JT played two seasons for another team. Not one. Washington and NYJ.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but neither of them were statistically better than his days with Miami

No.............it's not JT.......this guy played earlier. Also, to clarify............his best career per game statistics were the one season he played for another team.

You nailed it Phins Rrock............the Man with the "St Tropez Tan" is the correct answer.

Ol' Don gets looked over.........but there's a lot to be said for a guy that played for 15 years......... smoked in the locker room and almost brought his team back in arguably the greatest game ever played.

Don did it his way.

Are you referring to just Yards Per Game?

This Dolphin was a defensive lineman, but is known more for his episode where he woke up late and missed a morning practice at training camp, then showed up that evening and made up a story that he had been abducted by German kidnappers and taken out into the Everglades.

I guess so... because some of his other stats were not the best of his career... like TDs as an example being the most important stat.

I knew the answer was Strock, but the question was a bit misleading.

Correct. After he came clean with what really happened, Coach Shula revoked the veterans privileges of staying at home during training camp. That night, a bunch of angry teammates grabbed hold of Oglesby and taped him to a palm tree near the locker room. When asked if he was involved in the taping, safety Louis Oliver responded, "No I wasn't. I was being abducted at the time"
