MIKE NOLAN SCHEDULED TO INTERVIEW WITH MIAMI
Quote: On the same day he parted ways with the Denver Broncos, former defensive coordinator Mike Nolan already is scheduled to interview for the vacancy with the Dolphins, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN and Jason La Canfora of NFL Network.
As a league source said, "My money is on him ending up in Miami."
The Dolphins fired Paul Pasqualoni last week, after two years of running the defense. He joined the Cowboys for Sunday's playoff loss to the Vikings after Todd Grantham left to become the defensive coordinator at the University of Georgia.
Since then, the Dolphins have had a hard time filling the job. Al Groh opted to take a job as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech, Romeo Crennel picked the Chiefs, and Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler opted to stay in Pittsburgh.
The reasons for Nolan's departure from Denver remain unknown.
As another source said of the development, "They finally figured out defense in Denver and he's one and done."

Have a bag of money waiting for him at the airport. He's a very good DC.

Re: MIKE NOLAN SCHEDULED TO INTERVIEW WITH MIAMI
We need to schmuze this guy. Need a boat load of hotties in bikinis at the airport with flowers and beer and stuff. Highlight the fact that it doesn't snow in South Florida! (usually... Global Warming almost brought some snow this year though)

I say get him for the right price...
If we're gonna give him Albert Haynesworth type of money (for a DC). Then pass.
Id rather see Todd Bowles getting a shot.

I will drive from Charleston to Miami over night just to party for that one all night all day and all night again when we win. Then I'll drive to Dallas to see us bring back the glory.

If they are able to get Nolan in house, I wonder how that hire might effect what the fins decide to do with Taylor and Porter?

If he ends up with us, I'll be the happiest man on the planet. bar none. I LOVE Nolen as a DC. That guy completely transformed the Denver D with no talent what so ever.

Champ Bailey has no talent whatsoever? Brian Dawkins has no talent whatsoever? They have a corner better than any on our team. An outside linebacker better than any on our team. A safety better than any on our team. An inside linebacker better than any on our team. And you think they have no talent whatsover. You've really taken the cake on this one.

However, you have to also remember that he had to transform Dumerville to a stand-up LB.....and DJ Williams into a 34 ILB, something that I don't think he is very good at. His game relies on speed, and he'stoo closed in, in that system. Dawkins is still a baller. You're right on that one....Champ and Goodman are a heck of a combo too. But they signed Renaldo Hill, so it pretty much evens all that out.

And Denver's run defense was ranked 26th (128.7 yards per game). Ick.

That's the main thing I care about. I can't wait to see what he can do with our D. Man I'm pumped!!! 7th in total yards, 3rd in pass D, 10th in sacks, and allowed just over 20 ppg. Again with not much talent, and a team switching from a 43 to a 34.

But he gets no blame for a porous run defense? Why is it that our former DC got all the blame for a poor pass defense when we had no safeties that could cover and two rookie corners?

Re: MIKE NOLAN SCHEDULED TO INTERVIEW WITH MIAMI
Rich, you have to butter up people before you shread their post... I still stand by my comment last year that you could bring a foul smell to a rose garden. But hey, everyone has a purpose. I do agree with you, but Nolan does have a history with good (not great) defenses. With the pool of potential DCs out there now, he is the pick of the litter.

When the otherside is not condusive to Dolphin fantasies... yes! Foul!
Now hypathetically speaking, if Nolan was running the Defense for 2009, where do you place us?

I don't blame him for break downs in coverage, or other mental mistakes we made, but I do blame him for not have an effective scheme and for not disguising our weaknesses better, or for making any adjustments what so ever. Nolan took a #29 D and turned them into the #7 ranked D in the league. Forget specifics. That's pretty damn good.

I'd like to point out that if we hire him, he will be the DC for the Sr Bowl of which Cody will be a part of (hint hint wink wink)

No doubt that the 26th rank run defense is worrisome... but we'll have to make do with what we got... assuming we get him.

Re: MIKE NOLAN SCHEDULED TO INTERVIEW WITH MIAMI
I also believe it's about talent. Wilson was a downgrade over Hill and that falls on the great front office that we have. I believe our D-Cord was a scapegoat for a lack of talent. Mike Nolan would be alright, but to get "pumped" about it is a little over the top. The bottomline is that we must draft well and pick up key role players in FA.

Nolan had some success as a defensive coordinator in Baltimore, but let's not forget that everyone else who has coached there since Ray Lewis got to town has had success as well. I respectfully disagree. Miami would play well one half and not the other. At the beginning of the season, that was because Pasqualoni was making no adjustments. The second half I think he started to get how to make adjustments, but failed to scheme for the first half. Yes, there were breakdowns, but there was so much more that could have been done to utilize the talent that is on the field. Also, lack of talent? They had two rookie corners. So those thinking that we need better players and not better coaching don't realize that the talent is there, they are just young...they need to be taught how to get to places, and put into position to succeed. That takes coaching. Paul was consistently showing his hand on blitzes, and consistently blitzing 5 on 3rd down. Entirely too predictable. i don't care how much talent you have, Paul's defensive schemes would get torn up no matter what. Give me Nolan, get me a nose tackle and another ILB and this defense can be pretty good.

Re: MIKE NOLAN SCHEDULED TO INTERVIEW WITH MIAMI
I've never been a big fan of Mike Nolan - though I think that's based mostly on him as the head coach of the Niners where I thought he was just pathetic. But there's something else about him that I don't like, something about his demeanor... can't really place it. But I'll support him if we hire him, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
