Well for me It would be Joe Robbie, Shula, Marino, Csonka. If it is players only then Marino, Csonka, Taylor, Griese.

first reaction would be Marino, Csonka, Griese, Taylor (Shula if coaches count).....Buoniconti and Clayton could be in the conversation too.

Robbie, Shula, Marino are the 3 musts. I think it's a coin flip between Griese and Csonka for the 4th spot, although I'd lean towards Griese because of his loyalty to the organization, both during and after their careers.

Leaving the owner out & just coaches, players. Its easy.

Griese - Super Bowl winning Qb.

Shula - Greatest Coach in NFL History

Csonka - Dominate RB in a Running League

Warfield - Greatest WR in NFL history. Had to play when DBs could get away with murder in the NFL.

There's no way I take Griese over Marino. Earl Morrall started and won 11 of 17 games in 72.
Mt. Rushmore:
Shula
Marino
Zonk
Taylor

Csonka left too and came back. When he left with Kiick and Warfield for the WFL it makes you wonder what the rest of the 70's might have been like for the Phins. Could we have won or contended for another Championship?

Joe Robbie (Founder)

Don Shula (Would literally make EVERY other team's list as well)

Dan Marino

Jason Taylor (It's extremely close between him and Griese)

Csonka, Warfield and Jim Kiick left the Dolphins to join a new league called the World Football League in 1974 The World Football League failed two years later.

They were offered a 1 million per year contract. A lot more than Miami was paying.

The Dolphins have only ever retired three numbers:

Marino
Griese
Csonka

If coaches are included, I have to say Shula. If players only, I have to go with one I don't see listed:

Jim "Mad Dog" Mandich

Good question they broke my heart a little as a kid when I heard they were leaving. Csonka's rookie contract was 3 years for $20,000; $25,000; $30,000 respectively with a $34,000 signing bonus and a car. WFL offered him a 3 year deal for $1.4 million.

Similar stories for Warfield and Kiick who were offered $900,000 and $700,000 contracts by the WFL. It was all about the money. The NFL owners were far less generous than today.

A blast from the past. No name defense. I think I prefer this color of uniform.

Robbie, Shula, Marino and Zach Thomas.

No Csonka or Taylor cuz they left. Griese was just a qb of a great team and during the 72 season it was Morrall.

A little off topic, but it is somewhat applicable. If anyone watched/listened to "The Finsiders" today, they had a trivia contest. Yours truly decided to call in and actually got through! I was thrown for a curveball when they started talking about this topic but then ended up asking me who the actual presidents were! Me not being a history buff stumbled to 3 of the 4, and fell short : (

So bummed : ( Too bad they didn't even throw a little dolphins trivia out there. It was actually kind of cool tho because after I got disconnected, I turned the volume up and they at least gave me a little credit for almost getting there. Apparently people have not been very good at it in the past. Not sure if anyone actually listens, but I find it a fun show to keep up with. Hopefully I can get the chance to redeem myself in the future!

Thanks for the heads up on that, Marc. I'll be sure to have google opened up in case they ask me a non-Dolphins question. It's been so long in school that I am not sure who is actually on it besides George Washington.
