Has issues with beating blocks from the receiver. Will lower his head and give sub-par tackling efforts.
That is a severe understatement! He is non-existent in the run game. He gives absolutely no effort! He has nice ball skills and gets vertical in the pass game, but he is really awful in run support. I don't see him playing much this season. I would be very surprised. I can only see he him coming in on dime or quarter packages. I think it was a MAJOR reach if you ask me.
It was quite a reach, I think most people had about a 5th round grade on him, because of those issues.
Walter Football had a 3-5 round grade.
But they had Poyer as a 3-4 rounder.
NFLDraft Countdown had him as the 15th best corner in the draft, ahead of Leon McFadden and Tyrann Mathieu and right below B.W. Webb and Jordan Poyer.
Seems like a lot of sites had Poyer ranked much higher than he wound up going... so I'm not sure what the value in their round grade is.
