All name calling aside , why cant he just pay for the renovations himself. Of all the monster truck shows , concerts , and other events the revenue will be there. These other events will make up for the lagging Dolphin attendance. Why add any new tax even if it a tourist tax. Put your feelings for the Dolphins aside. Schools are broke , housing is still down while unemployment is still up. People are just still plain hurting. If he is on a PR tour , let him step up.

He should definitely pay for a large chunk of it, if not all.

Isn't the money coming from taxes on hotel lodging and such?

I agree with you completely. Ross should pay for his private company renovations. I'm not going to bash him for going on a PR tour. That's his job. Businessmen make most money when they're not spending theirs. If he can lobby and persuade others throughout the community more power to him.

Points well taken. Let him lobby & persuade other business people who can afford it. Sort of like the 1% minority celebrity ownership thing. People here are hurting & have just been fleeced in the past with stadium & arena deals. His timing is poor (no pun intended). How much can we be bleeded.

Sadly FINesse, that's politics/business. This business is in the public's eye 24/7 but there are so many other "1%" who are constantly taking advantage of the people. Especially in the city of Miami.

The grudge Tony Sparano held after the Dolphins’ surreptitious courting of Jim Harbaugh in early 2011 “damaged the whole organization,” owner Stephen Ross said on Dan Le Batard’s show on 790 The Ticket on Friday afternoon.

Appearing as a guest to talk about the future of Sun Life Stadium, Ross instead revisited the Dolphins’ recent past.

He spoke in detail about the fractious relationship between Sparano and Ross and Jeff Ireland.

...

“He could never put it behind him,” Ross said. “I don’t think he was the right head coach for the Miami Dolphins. I didn’t hire him. We’re a much better organization today than then.”

...

• “This organization is functioning the best since the [ Don] Shula days, [because] I picked the head coach with Jeff Ireland. People see this organization is really on the uptick.”

...

Can we NOW please stop the "Ireland is on the how seat" banter?!!?
It is a product of the media and the fans imagination.
Everything Ross says is that he is 100% in line with Ireland.

Can someone please dig up for Degs the quotes Ross has on record about Tony Sparano after he was dissed by Harbaugh? If this team doesn't make the playoffs, Ireland will be gone.

The stadium referendum would have ZERO impact to the pocketbooks of the residents of South Florida... so I'm not sure what the point of bringing this up is.

The tax increase being proposed will be to a stream of revenue that by law cannot used for anything other than tourism initiatives, so it has no impact to schools or police officers etc etc.

The Dolphins are paying for most of the renovations themselves, 70% of them when it is all said and done.

And the tax increase is not going to go to the stadium alone as most of it will go right back into the tourism industry.

Whether you agree or disagree with the stadium referendum, let's at least get the facts straight when discussing it. I'm seeing a lot of people not bothering to do that.
