I read that article too. It's nice to hear that people are talking about us, but it won't mean a thing until we can put it together on the field

The losers

Buffalo Bills: Cutting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick made sense, but there's just no hiding the fact that Tarvaris Jackson sits atop the depth chart. That's depressing. A draft pick is absolutely necessary. Absolutely needing a quarterback in the draft is how you end up with J.P. Losman.

The Bills lost talented guard Andy Levitre, while GM Buddy Nix continued his curious practice of giving big money to marginal players like cornerback Leodis McKelvin and linebacker Manny Lawson. McKelvin's contract looks terrible compared to the cornerback bargains that were out there.

Miami Dolphins: You "win" free agency by signing guys like linebacker Philip Wheeler to cheap one-year contracts, like the Raiders did last season. You don't get value by signing non-pass rushing linebackers to huge long-term contracts. Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace was a perfect pickup for Ryan Tannehill's big arm, but otherwise GM Jeff Ireland spent like a guy trying to save his job. (Which he is.) It's also easy to ignore that plenty of talent left the building: cornerback Sean Smith, tackle Jake Long and running back Reggie Bush.

Those comments are from Gregg Rosenthal, who writes for both Rotoworld.com and the NFL.com. There has been so much negative publicity towards the Dolphins the last few years, that I will take all the positive press the Dolphins get. Positive comments have been few and far between, and in some cases, I think it has been over kill.

And yes, the Dolphins do need to convert this new talent into wins on the field.

Not true. It means there is a LOT more reason for hope than there has been in a long time.
And that means something for this long suffering fan base

i think this will be the season that winning in March will lead to winning in January & February.

Hopefully the combination of Ireland and Philbin will lead to a more talented roster and more wins. I like the moves we've made so far, but I'm going to remain skeptical until we actually start winning games. On the outside, I think these moves set us up to win a couple more games than we did last year. I still think we're a 9-7 team on paper.

But if Tannehill takes a big step forward then maybe we can win 10 or 11 games. I think we've still got a few more things to do. If I had to make a list it would read:
1 - Defensive secondary (1 starting corner / 1 depth/competition corner / 1 depth/competition free safety).
2 - Offensive line (1 starting right tackle / 1 depth/competition guard)
3 - Defensive line (1 pass rush specialist / 1 depth defensive tackle)

If we can do these three things, then I think this team will be prepared to go as far as Tannehill can take them.

I think Martin is not the answer at protecting Tannehill's blindside and would like to see an upgrade at LT and also sign Winston, then I might feel a bit better.

For whatever reasons it is starting to look like Miami won't get Osi or Dumervil on the pass rushing side either. I still say they need that other elite rusher to apply heat opposite Wake (whoever that might be). If you do that, the secondary becomes even better too.

Jarvis Jones, Bjoern Werner, Ezikiel Ansah...there are a lot of pass rushers that we can get in the draft. I think this is a better fix because these guys are 6-8 years younger than an Osi or Dumervil, they're going to be around longer and they're going to be cheaper.

Everytime i read an article or mock draft...It's about how the Phins spent so foolishly on free agents.

The bad press just continues as bad as a year ago..

The root has to be between the New York Media and Boston media.

The Phins can't seem to win when it comes to the media. If they don't spend in free agency then they are cheap and no one wants to come to Miami. This time they spend some of that huge cap space and they are reckless and foolish.

Quote:
12. Miami Dolphins -- Florida State CB Xavier Rhodes

Even after his recklessly desperate free-agency spending spree, Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland's roster has myriad holes. He needs two starting corners, an offensive tackle, another edge rusher, help at running back, and arguably a new right guard. Although press-corner Rhodes is a questionable scheme fit for coordinator Kevin Coyle's zone-heavy secondary, he's the best defensive back left on the board. Ireland is on the hotseat, and must nail day-one starters with his first 4-5 draft picks.

Well, we can bemoan the media (both national and local) all we want but until we start to see this team actually improve in the W-L columns, we'll continue to get blasted no matter what they do in FA or the draft...

Some fans don't get that simple concept.

They want cred after throwing around money in free agency. How many times have we seen in the NFL when that doesn't win you championships? I mean crap, remember our splurge towards the end of the Shula years?
