The Denver Post reports the Dolphins have "jumped into discussions" for free agent Elvis Dumervil.
Dumervil has been weighing offers from the Broncos and Ravens. The Dolphins have more salary cap room than both of those clubs, though Denver beat writer Mike Klis acknowledges that the extent of Miami's Dumervil interest is "unclear." Dumervil, 29, is the premier free agent remaining on the open market.

Make it happen Ireland! This move would give us the best pass rush in the NFL hands down. I hope this happens.

When it comes to defensive ends, the Dolphins seem to be willing to listen, but also willing to sit back and let the market be set and not overpay. It seems they are OK with going into the draft needing a pass rusher.

If one of these guys (Osi or Dumervil) signs, it's going to be for 1 year, max 2 years and for $5-7 mil a year or less.

They really like Vernon I wouldn't be surprised to see them sign a guy like Dumervil or Osi to give Vernon more time to develop.

I could see us taking another DE though... maybe to backup Wake, but it would likely be in the later rounds.

That sounds like a great deal to me. The more needs that are taken care of now, the more freedom they have in the draft to trade up or take a chance on someone in later rounds like Marcus Lattimore.

Hopefully this is a negotation tactic in order to get Osi.

I don't think you can go wrong with either player. Both guys would be able to step in as pass rushers and get the job done.

Atlanta is trying to lock Osi up right now, so he may not be an option after this weekend.

Doesn't really make sense to me. He's not good enough against the run to opposite Wake in a 43, he's not an elite rusher anymore, and he'd be too expensive to use as a situational player.

Do you mean Osi or Dumervil? Dumervil not an elite pass rusher? I know he had an off year last year but...

Lets not forget the fact that he would want to play here. I would much rather have a player that wants to play for the Dolphins than one that is just going for a last resort option. That being said, he is still a "prove me wrong" player in regard to his abilities as an every down guy. Guess we will have to just wait and see what shakes out...

Dumervil.

He's now 29 and last season he ranked as PFF's 30th most effective pass rusher among 43 DE's and 34 OLB's.

He'll want to get paid like a big time rusher, and I don't see him as one anymore. I think he's solid, but not elite enough to spend big and sacrifice what you will on run D.

He came off an injury and with Wake here and the dts we have it should set him off easily

it's ideal to have 3 strong pass rushers anyway

how old is Osi? seems like he's been in the league for 12 years now.

just looked it up. He's 31. Rather have Dumervil.

Oh ya he's not good enough...Only 11 sack and 6ff..

And 29 is old again?

But PFF says he sucks...Thats why everyone is trying to get the guy for 8 million a year again?

I'd pass on Dumervil. I don't think he is the right fit for us, unless he is used primarily in pass rushing situations. I certainly wouldn't be willing to part ways with the money he is looking for.

Exactly. There is a reason this guy is the top DE on the market right now. There is a reason the Broncos wanted to keep him around. Guys like this don't hit the market very often. I hope the Dolphins pounce and add the guy. If we get him I think we'll have the best pass rush in the NFL.

Just look at it this way. Would you want him playing for the Patriots, Bills, or Jets?

That's like saying, I'd rather eat a ham and cheese sandwich than rotten eggs and then turning around and calling the ham and cheese sandwich gourmet dining.

Dumervil is good, just like a ham and cheese sandwich.
