Omar Kelly ‏@OmarKelly
Miami #Dolphins make big splash by signing receiver Mike Wallace to a five-year deal.

If we sign Cook and draft Austin, this offense will have a ridiculous amount of speed.

My guess is that Welker ends up with the Colts or Vikings. I'd love to have him along with Wallace, but we might just have to be happy with Bess.

5-7 million cap hit this year...They're going all out in Free Agency.

I don't like deferring all that cap money, but hey, they're going for it this season.

You're up, Tannehill.

Yeah I also read on Twitter about them pushing for Cook and bringing in Austin for a visit. Could they actually take him with the 12th pick????

I'm all for it. With the 3 of them the passing offense should have the talent.

I'd love to take Austin, and in the back field go with Miller as our #1 and go get a Mendenhaul or Steven Jackson as our #2. Our offense could take a huge leap this year.

All Tannehill would have to do is dink and dunk to these guys.... 5 yard passes turning into long plays.

Here is the ESPN link. All it says is 5 year, no $$ mentioned.

I thought it was 5/$57.5??
That's "only" $11.5/year.

He still had better get it done!!!

Welcome aboard!!!

Let me say this...

With Miami's approach in Free Agency. Not only wanting to spend big, but defer money, it means they WON'T be players in Free Agency for next 3 years. Everything now is contingent on great DRAFTING.

Ireland is putting a lot of pressure on himself. He better hit in April with all those picks.

Good point. Don't be surprised to see the Dolphins address linebacker late in the draft... with Dansby and Burnett up there in age, it would be nice to start developing their replacements now.

I still think Vernon might be a LB down the road. More of a Kiwanuka than a pure DE.

I think they have time though. LB now a days is a plug-and-play position. And in a 43, I don't prioritize it as much as other positions defensively.

It does. However, don't forget that they can rework contracts or cut players 3 years down the road when their base salaries are like $12-15m a year.

Like the Jets?

You can't escape a lot of guaranteed money, and it sounds like that's exactly what Miami is dishing out.

Jared cook just agreed to terms with St. Louis, and is returning to Fisher who drafted him. 5 years, 35m. No idea how you can choose MISSOURI over Florida. All I can do is laugh at the moron.

They better have enough to resign or extend Rashad Jones's contract next year or I'll be mega sad to see him go.. The Phins need a hard nosed safety to strike fear into the offense!

That depends. Remember, Hartline got a $7 million signing bonus and 12.5 guaranteed and simply guaranteed the first two base salaries. So after year two, we can cut him and save money.

You can't escape it, but you can mitigate it.
Most teams do it. Most contracts are set up that way.

BenVolinPBP Source says TE Jared Cook is choosing between the Rams and Dolphins. He is currently in Miami

I saw a Dolphin fan retweet it from a Rams beat writer off Twitter a few moments ago, looking at other forums now though it may not yet be official. We'll see, but I think he is going to the Rams.

Right. I was looking further ahead to Jared Cook potentially signing, and I'd (assume) signing an OT or CB.

So my post is somewhat a moot point as of right now, but I have a feeling that Plan A is to do exactly that.

How ironic that the first super bowl played in the cold will be won by the team playing in the warmest climate.

It's not our money..lol. No, really though, there are ways to get cap friendly. We have the cap space, use it!!

When all is said and done, I think we'll be alright cap-wise. Remember, we can rollover unused cap space. Also, don't be suprised if Ellerbe's contract is actually somewhat frontloaded...

And if we draft well, we'll have a good core for now and for the future. Big IF I know, but the philosophy has really changed around here.
