I say tentative rankings because I'm already thinking of some changes. LOL
I'm watching the runningbacks now and Knile Davis has alot of buzz among scouts lately and just ran a 4.3 flat. He could actually be the best back in this draft. He's a bull. On the flipside Ellington ran a disappointing 40.

Escobar will be taking in the top 40 picks. I don't think there's anyway he gets into Round 3.

I don't necessarily agree with it, but I've heard too many opinions from scouts saying he's a late first round player.

you know I love me some Escobar but I'm usually hearing high 3rd round.

From where? Walter football?

Mel Kiper and online mocks are not where to find info on a guy's "stock".

Evaluators have their opinions. We tend to catch on late, and then disguise it with "player x's stock is rising", or "he's falling down draft boards." In reality though, stocks don't change from December to April. Our knowledge of what those stocks are do.

He's only considered a sleeper to be a top 40 pick.
Pump the brakes a little! ...... It's hard to crack the top 40. Ertz might not even get selected in the top 40 picks. And many have McDonald higher than Escobar. It would be a success for Escobar just to make it into round 2 (top 64)

Quote:
San Diego State's Gavin Escobar posted a disappointing 40 time of 4.84 seconds. Mayock -- who has Escobar ranked as his third-best tight end -- said the middling time will cause teams to take a closer look at Escobar's tape.

But the biggest name out of this group continues to be Eifert.
Said Mayock: "If you're talking about a potential first-round draft pick amongst Eifert, Ertz and Escobar, I think (Eifert) had the best day from a measurable perspective."
Eifert has put himself in position to become a first-round pick.

too many opinions from scouts? where are these opinions? Walter Football? LOL

I know Mayock is the one that called him a top 40 sleeper but just in the past 2 days Mayock has given 60 guys 2nd round grades. :)

Only 30 guys this year can go in the 2nd round. (Browns and Saints don't have 2nd round picks this year)

Walter Football has scouts opinions?

Here's one article I read today...

http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/ ... 99541.html

"He's probably gone by the time Green Bay picks," one scout said. "He's in that 20 to 35 range. He and (Tyler) Eifert are very similar in a lot of ways."

So some team is going to use a 1st round pick on a tight end that just ran a 4.82 forty? And who was being viewed as a 4th round prospect a couple weeks ago.
I'll believe that when I see it. Especially since he's only the 3rd or 4th best tight end in the draft. Experts only have Eifert going in the 20 to 30 overall range and he;s the superior tight end in the draft. So how does Escobar fit in that range?

I think only Eifert goes in the 1st round. Ertz in the first 10 picks of the 2nd round. McDonald and Escobar somewhere in the late 2nd or early 3rd round. Not a ton of teams need starting tight ends. The first round is going to fill up with defensive studs, offensive line and all these speedy receivers.
FYI all of my info comes from Scouts twitter, not mock draft sites.

just over a month ago

Quote:
01/07/13 - San Diego State tight end Gavin Escobar will not return for his senior season. Aztecs coach Rocky Long confirmed Monday morning that Escobar will forgo his senior season to declare himself eligible for the 2013 NFL draft. The junior tight end and Mackey Award semi-finalist finished his final season in an Aztec uniform as SDSU’s leading receiver, with 42 receptions for 543 yards and six touchdowns. In the official NFL evaluation report that Escobar got last week, Long said Escobar was projected to go as high as the third round of the draft. - Stefanie Loh, The San Diego Union-Tribune

doesnt get more definitive than that. The official NFL evaluation report.

That report is BS, swerve. I remember Jordan Todman was told by the same report he'd go at the top of the 2nd round.

He went in the 6th.

:) OK......but your Packer report is dead on?

if he's been labeled a 3rd round guy before the combine I would think that the terrible 40 time would only make his stock go down, not rise up 50 draft slots. That makes zero sense.

Quote:
Tyler Eifert, Notre Dame: Eifert staked his claim to being the first tight end selected in April’s draft timing 4.65 seconds in the 40, touching 35.5 inches in the vertical jump as well as posting a broad jump of 9-11. He kept the momentum going during position drills displaying next-level receiving skills and may break into the top 20 picks based on his results.

Quote:
Vance McDonald, Rice: McDonald has been steadily rising up draft boards and once again impressed scouts. He looked athletic during position drills and showed the ability to effortlessly make the deep reception in stride. McDonald’s Combine workout will move him into the draft’s initial 45 selections.

Doesn't mean they can't have a 2nd Rd grade.

It's people who actually draft opinion vs the opinion of a 3rd party advice firm...

And my point is that Escobar was not seen as a 3rd round guy before the combine. Maybe to you and me, but clearly scouts have him labeled differently. Whether the 40 time hurts or not remains to be seen, but I doubt it will.

It's possible some scouts had him as a high 2nd round guy but doesnt mean they all did. Can't just assume that.

If a scout says that "he'll likely be gone before Green Bay" in the late 1st round, it's probably based off more than just his personal opinion of the player. They've probably had that discussion as a staff.
