Ireland: No pressure to sign 'big name' free agent
"I don't really feel the pressure that it has to be a name guy," Ireland said Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine. "If that particular player we think is going to help our football team move forward and take a big step, if he has a big name, great." http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miam ... 3042.story

That makes a lot of sense... I mean I dont like potatoes, but i like french fries, hash browns and home fries... So we are going to sign Wallace if he helps our team move forward? Sounds good Jeff

We don't have to sign a big name, but we're looking for players that are going to upgrade the team...
I've officially said nothing shocking.

He is gonna make a huge splash. I do not believe what he says. Its a make or break year for him & unless he has blackmail pictures of Ross he will be gone if we do not improve this season. I think teams realize already that we will have a receiving core that few will be able to defend.

We are way beyond Ireland having pictures of Ross in Vegas with prostitutes blackmail. We're in the neighborhood of Ireland knowing about people in Biscayne Bay wearing concrete shoes that Ross put there type blackmail.

If he doesn't sign a "name" player he's going to have problems convincing fans to buy season tickets and money is the name of the game.

This is no different than Pre draft misdirection. Nothing any GM says can be trusted (except one with no cap space)

Especially in South Florida where there are plenty of other things to do and if you don't put a winner on the field, the fans won't show up.

Re: Ireland: No pressure to sign 'big name' free agent
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported from the combine today, the Dolphins are having internal discussions to bring in two of the top FA WRs. He mentioned Wallace and Jennings as a possibility.
If Jennings is interested in coming to Miami, he'll have to come down on his demands. He's 30 years old and coming off a major injury...........maybe pay him something in the range of what the top 12-18 receivers are getting............he can't expect to get Megatron or Larry Fitzgerald money.

Re: Ireland: No pressure to sign 'big name' free agent
Mixed reports on Jennings, but the base I have heard is he is in the 7 - 8 range annually, however he will be wanting 5 - 6 years...
Familiarity could help us there, players have strong bonds with coaches so if he & Philbin were close he may be willing to bend a little to play with him. But it still will cost us..
Wallace is definitely going to be a 5 year 55 - 60 mil contract to get him... Figure he turned down 5 years 50 mil to stay put, he may even come at 65 or so as his starting point... So we will have to be competitive bidding for him...

Re: Ireland: No pressure to sign 'big name' free agent
The air Philbin era is on the runway & getting set for takeoff. I have a friend up in NE who says Belechick is crapping his pants because it is clear how good our receivers will be this season. I know the draft is a much better way to build a team but adding Wallace with Jennings or Bowe we can build up the pieces thru the draft. At least we will once have a feared receiving group.

Just what I read somewhere, could have been more off season rumor bs, but said he was looking for a long term home... Figure at 30 it makes sense for him to prefer not having to worry about FA in 2 - 3 years...
