I'm sure this is supposed to be in the draft section but I want more people to see it. Phinsfansc pointed him out to me and I really like what I see. I especially like the production against good competition. He isn't a burner but seems to be a playmaker and I'd think Miami has a shot at him in the 2nd round, MAYBE 3rd if he slips.

I'm not his biggest fan. He's a little slow for my liking. Not just in terms of his straight line speed, but in his quickness. Not sure he's going to get open at the next level against man coverage, or produce RAC.

I like his hands though. Uses his size well. Just think there are better "big" options out there. Plus I'd like to see our size at TE. At this point, I want a TE in Free Agency, and either Ertz or Eifert.

I'm not a very good judge of college talent but I liked what I saw from this guy and it was against good defenses. Its easy to look fast against competition that won't make it to the NFL but this guys was making plays against solid, ranked teams. Looks like he ran by a lot of guys too.

I like Cobi in the 3rd round, and he has put up solid numbers against SEC competition, and that means something.

DeAndre Hopkins is a kid I really like in the 2nd round. He is a little raw, but I would take a chance on Cordelle Patterson in the 1st round. Big, fast, explosive, YAC guy.

Of course Phins is not a fan of DeAndre either.

Not a "big" fan, but I am a fan. At 42? Hell yeah...There are a couple of WR's at 42 I'd take over him, but I think that's a good spot for him.

But I don't think he will be there that late.

Who would you target?

Sure didn't seem to have a speed problem in that LSU game...

The CB that was covering him all game will be a late round pick, or not drafted at all, and he was on his hip pocket all game when playing man coverage. Hopkins uses his body extremely well and has great hands, so he doesn't need a lot of separation. He'll catch any ball that's within a 3 mile radius of him.

But if he can't separate against that talent, (and didn't in the ACC either for the most part), what's going to happen in the NFL?



At 42? I'm in love with Markus Wheaton. Still a little raw in his intermediate route running, but he's got a lot of talent. Reminds me of Mike Wallace a lot. Not quite as fast, but I think he's a better all around WR and will make more of an impact over the middle than Wallace does.

Really depends on what we've done in Free Agency when talking about Hopkins vs. Tavon Austin, but if they go with Jennings for example, I'd go with Austin.

Depending on what happens in Free Agency though, I'd be looking to move up from 42 for a pass catcher...preferably Ertz/Eifert.

Yeahhhh baby if we grab Tavon Austin I'll be the first in line to grab his jersey. That kid is beast worthy.

I can't get over his lack of size (and I'm almost never a huge stickler on size requirements). Despite how explosive he may be, how many guys at 5'8 are making a big impact in the NFL? Now out of those guys, how many are as small as him (170 pounds soaking wet)?

Also, for as explosive as he looks, quickness on artificial turf, in the most wide open offense in college football, in a conference with not-so-great defenses, can be easily over estimated. Look at Egnew's "athleticism" at Mizzou, then watch the Pre Season snaps; he didn't look like nearly the same athlete he was in college (or the combine, for that matter). Not saying Austin isn't explosive; he is. But you have to take into account the circumstances that he's playing in. While he might be the most highly touted on the list, West Virginia has put out a number of these guys in recent years, and are batting 0.

Getting back to his size, you might have to really work as a coach/schemer to get him involved offensively. You might need to really get creative in manufacturing opportunities for him in the open field, because just lining him up at WR is not going to do it.

He's a utility player, and if he's a great one, which on tape he certainly looks like one, than that's worth a high draft pick, unquestionably. But does what he put on tape really translate to the NFL? For the most part, it hasn't in the past.

But like I said, depending on what happens in Free Agency, I think he's definitely an option once we get into the 2nd round.

Wes Welker is only 5'9" 185 ... slightly bigger and not nearly as shifty.

I think a lot of the time it's how you utilize a player. If we bring him in expecting him to jump over 6'3" corners and safeties then obviously he won't be of much use... but if we bring him in and use him like we all thought we should have used Reggie in the passing game last year, I think he works out well.

He's got that play after the catch ability that we've been missing for a long time.

I'm not all that high on Hamilton either. He's not in my top 10 receivers.
I also love Wheaton and Quinton Patton looks like a polished possesion receiver.

What I would absolutely love to see would be us trading back in the 1st, then draft Keenan Allen from Cal. Then in the 2nd take Robert Woods from USC. One big physical receiver and one burner.
