Post Character Issues
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins ... not-e.html

In my opinion Philbin is willing to take a chance on a young player just coming out of school with issues over a player already in the NFL making money and still having problems off the field.
Titus Young is young and could very well change his life around in St. Louis but the insabordination from an athlete making millions is just ridiculous. I say this because I hope Philbin and Ireland take a chance on Da'rick Rogers (to me the best WR in the draft) but if they don't I stand by his beliefs name me the knuckeheads in Green Bay the past 5 years!

I think Jermichael Finley has been mentioned as a guy with character issues from an effort, maturity perspective.

And they were ready to dump him for it (reportedly).

MdDolfan, I don't think there is no shot they take Rodgers. Way too much baggage there.

I know you're right Phins Rock but I'm still keeping hope alive...I have a man crush on that kid!

Yeah he is and if he doesn't get his act together it's curtains for him in GB!

Scouts Inc.'s Steve Muench believes Tennessee Tech Da'Rick Rogers is "cut from the same cloth" as Anquan Boldin.
Rogers is "willing to work the middle of the field and capable of making plays against tight coverage," writes Muench. "And while there are red flags surrounding his off-field character, it's hard to question Rogers' passion for the game and that will matter most to an NFL team." The former Vol was among the best receivers in the SEC in 2011 and should be selected in the third- or fourth-round.

I'm a little curious. What has Philben done to make you think that he would take a chance on a troubled young player coming out of college? And Ireland, who is pulling the trigger, for that matter?

Maybe later in the draft, but Ireland hates to waste draft picks.

Look over the list of players drafted in rounds 3 - 4 by us for the last 4 years... I do not see the big deal taking a chance on a kid with some character issues..

That's why I wouldn't mind us looking at guys like the Honey Badger. All to often a 1st or 2nd round talent falls because of off the field issues. If you're able to take the kid in and get him to buy in, then you can absolutely steal a top tier prospect.

I don't mind us taking a chance on some troubled guys either. I think that is the nature of the game. We've been drafting leaders for a while now. I would think the team would rally around some of those type of players and help get the ones willing to improve in the right direction.

Does anyone in the league coming out of college have more baggage than Jimmy Wilson?

Id take a shot at anyone in round 7 if they are talented, rounds 2 - 3 tho I would use some serious judgement and evaluation when dealing with guys who have been kicked off the team... Which is what I think suspended indefinitely means...

Wilson was allowed to come back to school and finish out his education while playing football...

Well Dave, Ireland has been pretty successful wasting draft picks over the last few years even if he hates doing so.

True dat. That is why this team's depth is a real concern. He needs to improve, too.

Yep. And teams stayed away from a talented Dan Marino because of rumors of cocaine use. They thought that played into a senior year where he threw a lot of interceptions.

They said the same thing about Keenan Allen basically. His game looks most similar to Boldin.

I only say that because he has shown that he in not quick to pull the trigger in every situation like the Amaya case. So I think Philbin would be willing to take a risk on a kid that he could developer as opposed to an established NFL player set His ways!
