Dolphins looking to carve out more cap space
I have said that I believe Jeff Ireland will look to carve out additional cap space. This would speak to that fact.
The Miami Herald suggests Dolphins CB Richard Marshall is a candidate for offseason release. The Fins signed Marshall to a three-year, $16 million deal last offseason, but he struggled in coverage before rupturing two disks in his back in late September. The repair required a "daylong" surgery. Marshall is owed $4.55 million in 2013, and cutting him would save $3.02 million under the salary cap. Source: Miami Herald Jan 18 - 12:59 PM

Dmitri Patterson is a prime candidate as well.
$4.6 mil cap hit, no dead cap.
He'll either be restructured or released.
That's almost $10 mil right there with those two players.

I'm all for cutting Marshall.

That's almost $10 mil right there with those two players. It would put Miami's cap number at 69.4 million (give or take). So they'd have over 50 million in cap space at that point. Add Incognito to that list. He doesn't fit the scheme, and that would clear up 4.5 million. I'd hate to lose both him and Long, just from an intangible standpoint, but I think Richie should be improved upon, especially considering the money invested in him. Not that they need to add cap room. But there are some obvious cuts that would a ridiculous amount.

That's almost $10 mil right there with those two players. I agree, if he doesn't change his deal he'll be cut for sure. But he did play well in the small sample size we got to see. I think that we'll probably look to keep him and restructure his deal. While it's impossibly to say how he'll work out long term, I liked what I saw from him in the one or two games he played this year. Maybe he'll become our new nickel corner?

Re: Dolphins looking to carve out more cap space
Dan Carpenter is not worth 3 million and would clear 2.7 million

Carpenter was 24th in fg% He was the 7th highest paid kicker(getting a raise 2013)..And that's not obvious to you. Nevermind how many game winners he has missed the past 2 years.

Re: Dolphins looking to carve out more cap space
Just to expand
DC was 22 for 27
1-39 Yds - 12 for 12 40-49 Yds - 8 for 10 50+ Yds - 2 for 5
The issue with DC, a couple of his misses came at the end of the game, which exasperates the misses.
He is not as bad as some might think, but there is room for improvement.
