Unbelievable. This story is absolutely unreal.

Most popular theory is that he's gay, and this was how he hid it. Sad situation. Not sure why he took this so far though?

When people got suspicious he should have just "broken up" with her and got a new fake girlfriend or something.

If the price is right, you make the move.

Drafting an incredibly talented moron with a 3rd round pick isn't nearly as big a deal as using a 1st round pick on the same guy. If he screws up, a 3rd round guy is easier to cut ties with.

But if you draft him, you should probably supervise his social media, his sex life and interviews, LOL!

Dude folded like a cheap suit vs. Alabama ..... they featured a lot more NFL-ready talent than ND they're used to facing. He think his "talent" level is a bit overblown.

I have no idea about his true place in te draft. Just take my comment to be generic about anyone in the draft. When the price is right, you make the move. The price is determined by a lot of things, including how much you trust him to not embarass the organisation and how well he can handle the limelight

Te'o is one of, if not THE most over rated player in this draft.

He's not an elite athlete and doesn't play a premium position. I just don't see him as anything more than solid in the NFL.

Regardless of this incident I think somebody was going to waste a 1st on him.

I see he is saying that he is the victim of a hoax.

I find that hard to believe for two reasons:
1) lots of contradictory information coming from him
2) hard to believe professed his love on tv, to sports repoters etc, for his 'girlfriend' of two years who he only met once, before they started dating, and never even got together when she was in the hospital getting treated for leukaemia.

Even if it were a hoax, it speaks to severe immaturity and will scare a lot of teams

He said he met her in person before Te'o was even in the picture.

I'm not sure if Te'o and Mauia are friends.

Sounds to me like he prematurely stuck up for Te'o.

The detail in this transcript of his interview with SI from back in September is unreal. So many holes in the way he explained things even then, but the amount of detail might suggest that he has some sort of mental illness. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/colleg ... ax-quotes/

Right now Manti's handlers are researching every single comment made in the last 3 years by anybody in his circle so they can attempt to craft a story for his defense. The whole thing is a joke.

And with the 12th pick of the 2013 draft, the Miami Dolphins select Linebacker Manti T'eo from Notre Dame!

If he falls into Rd. 2. Jump on him.

Personally, I find it deplorable when somebody uses something like Leukemia (even death) as a a platform for sympathetic attention when said person with the affliction is not even real to begin with.

That is a major character flaw to me. You have to be a real dirtball to perpetuate that kind of thing.

If in fact this is all true against T'eo, he certainly is a whack job and Rock, I absolutely agree that making up such a story and feed off a death is plain sick in the head.

What is wrong with these people????

It is sad, and we will probably never know the real story unless he comes clean after he leaves ND. I dont believe anything now that the school is involved.
More lies and controversy surrounding a Catholic institute.. What a shame...

See my post above. Even if it isn't true, it shows serious questions of judgement and immaturity on his part. His draft stock just crashed either way

I don't think all the facts are out there yet, so, I want to wait to see what they come up with. It doesn't look too good for him, but he won't be the first NFL player lied to. I really don't see what he could have gained by all of this. He was all ready a good player.

Dave I don't even need a court room on this one. All you have to do is read the articles that are out there showing when comments were made by Manti, his father, Tuiassasopo, Regan Mauia, etc. NOTHING matches up. That's why he didn't show up for his interview with Jeremy Schaap the other day. Team Te'o is scrambling because of it, trying to make a coherent "story" for him to tell us.

I just want to know what Notre Dame is thinking throwing themselves into the ring of this thing. That AD even made comments that completely contradict things said in the past by Manti.

His draft stock is not going to crash because of this... especially if he was duped into dating a fake chick online for 3 years. There are guys who do worse and still get drafted high.

His draft stock is going to be decided by workouts.

Not for the sake, but you've already buried the guy and you don't know if he was in on it or not.

So you're trusting the same media that you probably criticize everytime they make Obama look good.

That seems pretty contrarian to me.

You think that's the only article out there that's investigated this now? LOL.

Regardless, since you're holding DeadSpin in question, what about their investigation isn't Kosher?

I'm trusting what I've read when it comes to comments Manti made that don't align with what his AD at Notre Dame said and the host of people in the Te'o camp. Not to mention comments Te'o contradicted himself with.

Right because other religious and atheist institutes are the beacons of truth.

Religion has nothing to do with this, its about money.

None of them are saying he was in on it. However, the guy from Deadspin editorialized rather than just reported that he believes he was in on it.

That's not responsible journalism.

He did? All he did was report the facts of what he unearthed when investigating. I saw the video interviews with the guy and he didn't automatically brandish Manti as the sole conspirator. He did make it absolutely clear the existence of the girl was patently false, without a doubt.

Rich, Te'o was in the media making comments about his dead girlfriend after the date in which he claims he learned she died (Dec. 6th). C'mon man. If he didn't know about it from the beginning, he certainly learned about the hoax at some point and ran with it for media attention.

Te'o has also claimed in the past he met her in person because she was a friend of his cousin. How can you meet somebody that doesn't exist?

Yes, he did. Just saw an interview this morning where he plainly stated that he is convinced Te'o was in on it.

Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Could be, or he was simply too embarassed about being duped or deluding himself into thinking it couldn't be true.

You don't know, you're simply running with speculation as if it were fact.

Thus my comment about passing judgment without knowing all the facts.

Oh and by the way, the media gets stories wrong ALL THE TIME.

See Trayvon Martin as a prime example.

He ran with it .........whether too embarrassed or knowing of it, he benefitted! A stand up individual gets in front of this thing before it continues. But again please tell me how Manti himsef could've met the girl (his own words) when he was with his cousin, if she does not exist!

So because Trayvon Martin's story was wrong that means they always report these things wrong? That logic is befuddling.

Well Rock, we know what a stand up guy you are. How difficult it must be to be such an example for the rest of us. You always make the right choice.

There is a huge difference between him being in on it and purposely using it to benefit and him being duped and not knowing how to properly handle the situation. People make mistakes all the time, except you I guess.

Quote:

What is befuddling is your lack of reading comprehension. That isn't what I said. They may be reporting this thing 100% accurately, however there is enough precedence there by the media to run with a story and create a narrative for me to not simply take what they say as gospel.

If you want to be that gullible, more power to you. But then you'd probably be just as easily duped as this guy probably was.

Correction .... Dec. 6th is the date he told the Notre Dame AD that he learned of the girl being fake. So again, he's in the media talking about her as his "deceased girlfriend" a handful of times after the fact.
