I'm not normally a grammar-nazi (I'm half-German and hate that term), as I'm guilty of grammar/spelling mistakes as well. However I have seen this more and more in my travels around the Internet and it bugs the mess out of me. It's kind of like fingernails scratching on a chalk board to me.




"Would of" - This is incorrect.

Used in a sentence - "I would of gone to the Dolphins game, but my car broke down."

It doesn't even make sense.

The proper phrase is:

"would've" which is the abbreviated form of "would have"

Used in a sentence - "I would've gone to the Dolphins game, but my car broke down."
or "I would have gone to the Dolphins game, but my car broke down."

Yes, it is true. However, he said "kind of" which is also incorrect ; )

I assume that people know that "would of" should be "would have" but it's the "your" vs "you're" and "they're" "their" and "there" usages that drive me nuts. Typos, abbreviations, and internet lingo are just a way of life anymore.

It's da internetz man.... it's much more easier to write on, cause aint nobody gonna be gradins my paperz.

hah I said that I wasn't perfect either. I do agree about the ones that you listed as well. "Its" and "It's" are used wrong a lot as well. It just seems that I see "would of" a lot more lately, and I needed to vent.
