You know we're desperate for some help when we trade for that slob.

I pray it somehow helps us. Has he even played in a zone-blocking system?

So no one on Phins roster can do whatever it is they are bringing him in to do? If he is to play on the line for the Phins this season and that is the plan then Phins have no one they even want to give a shot to first?

34 year old 352 pound guy sounds perfect for zone blocking scheme.

McKinnie, who has started 152 games in his 12 NFL seasons, is rated the 65th best offensive tackle by ProFootballFocus.com. Tyson Clabo, the Dolphins struggling right tackle, is rated 66th.

So far this season McKinnie has allowed one sack, four quarterback hits and 15 hurries. However, he's been a liability from the run blocking standpoint.

McKinnie would be second older player on Dolphins roster after John Denney

If we only gave up a 6th or 7th round pick on him, then it would be worth it. He used to be really good, but age has really hurt him this year. He lost his starting position after a couple games I believe. Let's just say he's better than Clabo.

Why didn't we make this trade during the bye week?

Can he be worst than Clabo? Yeah he is rated 65th but thats on the left side. Can he shift over to the right side?

Tough to learn a new offense mid season and change positions.

I think Martin moves back to the right. Probably not this week though.

McKinnie has allowed 1 sack and 19 pressures.

Clabo of course has allowed 8 sacks and 24 pressures.

The big knock on McKinnie is his run blocking. He is 74 out of 75 tackles in that category.

As a pass blocker, he is 54th while Clabo is 71st.

Jonathan Martin is 42nd, ahead of Luke Joeckel.

For those keeping score, Lane Johnson is 67th with 5 sacks allowed and 29 pressures.

When it was reported nearly three weeks ago that the Baltimore Ravens would explore the trade market for Bryant McKinnie, we immediately set the Miami Dolphins as the favorites to roll the dice on the banished left tackle.

While it's a sensible fit for player and team, Dolphins fans shouldn't expect a dramatic upgrade in pass protection.

SiriusXM NFL Radio's Ross Tucker recently told the "Around The League Podcast" that the veteran offensive tackle's effort was noticeably lacking prior to the Ravens' trade for Eugene Monroe.

McKinnie is on the back nine of his career. He was benched in Baltimore for good reason.

Tyson Clabo will eventually be benched, traded or cut, I've been told. The last two of those are interesting to me.

McKinnie AP

The Dolphins have a load of problems on the offensive line. Coincidentally, the Ravens have a load they were looking to unload. ...

He anchored the left side of the offensive line through the 2010 season, but he contributed to a major distraction with his role in the 2005 Love Boat fiasco (again, more down than up). Three years later, he was arrested in Miami on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence. The incident resulted in a four-game suspension.

But the Vikings kept him, until he showed up after the lockout reportedly north of four bills. Minnesota promptly cut him, the Ravens signed him, and he did fairly well in 2011. Last year, McKinnie was meh for much of the year, but he got it together in the postseason.

He became a free agent, later re-signed the team, but presumably fell out of favor after a party bus incident last month ...

And now he goes to back to Miami, where he went to college and where his 2008 arrest occurred. What could go wrong?

Why trade is even being mentioned is beyond me.

The team that trades for this guy hates their QB.

Yes, but McKinnie had allowed 1 sack on the season.

Joe Flacco wasn't the one getting killed, I guess Ray Rice was when running to the left side.

We need to figure out a way to increase the chances of Tannehill staying up right and from that standpoint, McKinnie should be an upgrade over Clabo.

The Baltimore Ravens are in the process of trading offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie to the Miami Dolphins, coach John Harbaugh said Monday.

Harbaugh said he anticipates the trade, which would be for a conditional late-round draft pick, will be finalized.

Yeap. Reminds me of signing Wheeler to a large deal. They were not interested when he could be had for cheap.

Really do not get not giving Yeatman a chance. Its not like McKinnie was going anywhere.

No doubt it is coming back to bite Jeff Ireland in the butt in regards to giving up that 2nd round pick to KC for Brandon Albert.

Hopefully McKinnie can play like he did the later part of the season and into the playoff for the Ravens.

Gotta stop relying on the ol "pocket passer" and start rolling Ryan out more. The kid throws great on the run and should avoid more sacks that way.

McKinnie's hard partying is legendary in NFL circles. He's been known for spending $100,000 on a bar tab in one night.

McKinnie's love of strip clubs is also well known. McKinnie was kicked off the 2010 Pro Bowl roster after partying too much in South Beach and missing practices.

Is he a Joe Philbin-type player? Absolutely not.

But the Dolphins are desperate. McKinnie can move in as the left tackle -- the position he's played all his professional life -- and they can move Jonathan Martin to right tackle, which is the position he played last year.

McKinnie, not exactly a try-hard guy so far this year, has nonetheless given up only one sack in 2013. So that is indeed an upgrade.

But does he come with warts? Yes.

The Miami Herald expects the Dolphins to move Jonathan Martin back to right tackle after acquiring Bryant McKinnie from the Ravens.
The Dolphins' offseason narrative was that Martin struggled as a rookie right tackle because that wasn't his natural position. He's now made six starts at left tackle and graded out 55th of 75 qualifying offensive tackles in Pro Football Focus' 2013 grades. In run blocking, he's 62nd. At some point it becomes time to acknowledge a continually struggling player just isn't any good.

This is what an unexpected loss for a sliding team will do = force change.

I don't know if it will work but at least it is something.
